Alanis Morissette: Uninvited Meaning
Uninvited Lyrics
I am flattered by your fascination with me
Like any hot-blooded woman
I have simply wanted an object to crave
But you, you're not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
Must be strangely exciting
To...

OMG, you're all wrong!
"Uninvited" was written for the movie "City of Angels" and is a direct response to Seth the Angel (Nicolas Cage) trying to get close to Maggie the Human (Meg Ryan).
He's an *Angel*. He's *Uninvited*. Yes, it's an *Unfortunate Slight*...
For those of you who haven't seen the movie, I won't give away the ending. You're welcome... -
Total internal dialogue. Intrusive thought are uninvited, often countering pleasant thoughts or feelings. She really is a brilliant songwriter. Ghost write some stuff or something, I know there are some great songs rattling around in that head. @ten7golf

There was a period of time during the Jagged Little Pill era where I don't think I laughed for about two years. It was a survival mode, you know. It was an intense, constant, chronic over-stimulation and invasion of energetic and physical literal space. People would break into my hotel room or reach into the car and pull my hair. - Alan is Morrissette interview quote. Univited in my opinion is about this.

She is speaking to THE WORLD. The facination of her fans. She (a genius), unlike many popular stars has decided to keep us at arms length ... an action of emotional survival. That's why she says it is an unfornate slight ... (slight means to "snub" someone). She fights with herself on this subject as her song portrays. She needs a moment to liberate. So just leave her be and don't smother her with attention...it os taxing on her soul.
-
Inappropriate intimate relationship that she enjoyed and felt guilty for allowing herself to enjoy; her internal emotions were "uninvited"; no need to "deliberate" unless she is in control of matter

The song to me seems to be spoken on behalf of Satan to someone who is falling just short of heaven

The song is about an affair between a young girl and older man. It is known that Alanis was involved with an older man when she was a minor, and I believe it lasted for quite a while. The song is about her struggle with knowing it is wrong, but liking the attention. It is also about how exciting it must be for him. She is repeatedly saying the whole situation is wrong. At the end she is debating whether this is worth it ("I need a moment to deliberate"). When the music comes crashing back, she has decided that she will continue with the affair.

Sound like she's being stalked by a friendly stalker..
-
This song seems like it is either 2 different meanings. She either is someone being stalked by another person who is obsessed with them or is "in love" with them. The other interpretation is she is starting to fall in love with someone and she doesn't feel she is ready or doesn't want to be in love so she finds the feelings she has uninviting.
