I Am Made of You Lyrics

In the beginning.I was just a shadow. In the beginning.I was alone
In the beginning.I was blind.Living in a world devoid of light.In the beginning.There was only night.I was shattered.Left in pieces.And I felt so cold inside.Then I called...

Alice is a Christian. I believe that the lyrics to I Am Made of You is his acknowledgement of the salvation he received by accepting Jesus Christ as his savior. My opinion: This is is love song to Christ.

If you look at the album as closing the loop to the original "Welcome to My Nightmare", this interpretation makes sense. I don't know when he was saved, but I feel like the lyrics refer back to his early days when maybe he was more on the "dark side":

"In the beginning I was just a shadow
In the beginning I was alone"
In the beginning there was only night
I was shattered, left in pieces
And I felt so cold inside
Then I called you from the darkness
    Where I hide

Genesis 1:1-3 says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
In the beginning I was blind, living in a world devoid of light"

Perhaps Alice is referring to his own beginning, before God entered his life to bring "light".

"In the beginning you were revelation
A river of salvation and now I believe
All I wanted, all I needed
    Was someone to rescue me
I was drowning, I was dying
    Now I'm free"

Revelation sounds like a reference to the last book in the Bible. Jesus asks us to believe in Him as our Lord and Savior. He is the "salvation" of mankind. His dying on the cross was his way to "rescue" us from our sins. Christians believe that by believing and accepting this sacrifice we will have everlasting life instead of death. We are set free from "dying". (Romans 5: "20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.")

"Here I am now, I can stand now
Cause your love has made me strong
    And forever you're the singer
    I'm the song"

    Philippians 4:13
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

This is just my opinion, of course. I didn't write the song.

    As Alice Said himself:
Cooper: There’s a song I wrote with Desmond Child and Bob Ezrin, and it’s called “I Am Made Of You.” It was on the Welcome 2 My Nightmare album (from 2011), and it was the first song on the album. Now, it was really interesting how this song lyrically came about, because when you listen to the song, it can be taken three different ways. Our producer Bob Ezrin said, “You’re singing to the audience, I am made of you.” And that was saying, ”I’m one of you and we’re connected.” Then Desmond Child said, “No, it’s I am made of you…the guy is singing to his girl, I am made of you…we are one. And I said, “Yes, but it could also be a hymn. It could also be a guy singing to God…I am made of you. If you listen to the lyrics through the whole song, I’ve actually heard that choirs and churches do this song now. And I’ve also heard that people do it as a boy-girl song. So it can be taken in a bunch of different ways—it really did act as three different songs in one.

I totally believe that this is a awesome Christian song that describes every single person who has been lost (everybody) and found Jesus and took Him as their Savior. My mother was in a senior care facility for the last two years of her life and when I read her the lyrics to this I did not tell her who it was and she also said that it was spiritual and when I told her she made me copy down the song and she would read it to herself before going to sleep.

This may sound extremely stupid to say of what the song means. But I have always thought that Alice refers to a woman that he fell in love with. And he realizes that what he once was no longer matters since she came into his life.He looks back to all those times when he was nothing but pieces and he felt cold inside. Then that's when she called from the darkness and she set him free.Though I don't know if that's what he meant but that's just how I how see it in my own eyes. When I met a girl that revived me in a way.And I began to realize she gave me life.Love and I thank her for it everyday that I can.

According to me the meaning of this song also could be a metaphoric way to describe birth, more precisly his own birth ^^
