at first glance this is a no brainer:Heroin addiction
Layne staley was an admitted addict, but thu=is song goes a little deeper than just him, it is also about his dad.
His dad left when he was young,and every one claimed he was dead, but according to staley "everyone knew he was just somewhere doing drugs". when layne got older, and this band started taking off, laynes papa came around, claiming he had been clean for 6 years. layne said in an interview, "then things changed, he started using again, and then he would just come by to use. he started hanging out all day just to get high. he would come up to me and be like you got any dope"
but anyway, horse is slang for heroin, also smack, not sure if layne came up with gods name is smack for some, or if this is common heroin slang.
