Alice In Chains: Rooster Meaning
Song Released: 1993
Rooster Lyrics
Eyes burn with stinging sweat
Seems every path leads me to nowhere
Wife and kids household pet
Army green was no safe bet
The bullets scream to me from somewhere
Here they come to snuff the rooster
Yeah...

Hill 875 is not Hamburger Hill. 875 was fought by the 173d Airborne in November 1967. Hamburger Hill was fought by the 101st Airborne in 1971. 875 had greater casualties. It was worse. Look it up
-
I believe it was written for his father. However in reference to PFC Rocky Stone, a M60 gunner from the 173rd Airborne on Hill 875 or Hamburger Hill who was the sole survivor of his squad.

This song is about Jerry Cantrell's father who served in Vietnam. This is written by Cantrell about the story his father told him
-
We'll it's about his relative that was in Vietnam which is obviously seen in the music video and the lyrics. Layne's relative used to share the memories that they had fro. The war which made layne make this song, in memorie of them and the horrors they faced. I'm not a 100% sur that's everything the song shows but that's what I got from the lyrics.
