Arcade Fire: Creature Comfort Meaning
Song Released: 2017
Creature Comfort Lyrics
Spend their lives resenting their fathers
Some girls hate their bodies
Stand in the mirror and wait for the feedback
Saying God, make me famous
If you can't just make it painless
Just make it painless
Assisted...

I think the song is great, it has amazing beats and stuff, and Arcade Fire is a great band. But, the lyrics is what hits me, because my twin brother committed suicide and it just hits so close to home. But don't make this stop you listening to other arcade fire songs! ( I really like the song "Rebellion" by Arcade Fire.)

Creature Comfort is the Arcade Fire song that strikes me the most. It talks about suicide and the depression/self-hate that hunts those who get entangled in the pursuit of overwhelmingly high standards set by society. They suffer because the image they see in the mirror is just far, far away from what they believed it is expected of them.
Well, isn't it ironic that so many people feel that way even though they are born in the "diamond mine" of American prosperity? Well, said "prosperity" is only materialistic and vacuous in itself. It is all around them, but it comes at a high price. Every material/external needs they have is now thorougly satisfied unlike in any other time of human history, but they are still soulless, hungry and desperate for anything that could make their miserable existances meaningful. Since they can't find meaning in the middle of such abundance, they escape to the darkness of their rooms, numb themselves with sleeping pills and antidepressants just to hold a little bit longer, to push their days along without killing themselves and finally getting freed from the abyss forced into themselves.
