Arcade Fire: Abraham's Daughter Meaning
Abraham's Daughter Lyrics
While his daughter hid and watched,
She dare not breathe. She was so still.
Just as an angel cried for the slaughter,
Abraham's daughter raised her voice.
Then the angel asked her...
-
I believe that Abraham is district 12, having no choice but to offer up its children every year. Issac is Prim, being called for slaughter. The angel (the capitol) is calling for the slaughter of Issac, (Prim) and Abraham's daughter (Katniss) steps upand defies the rules (as in the book and the film) and then the angel (the capitol) change who they want to slaughter - now they want Abraham's daughter (Katniss) as itsays in the line: 'and when he saw her raised for the slaughter' so she raises her bow (Katniss' weapon) and her and issac are released.
-
"Abraham took Isaac's hand and led him to the lonesome hill"- I believe the lonesome hill is the stage in the reaping and Abraham (The Capitol) takes Isaac (Prim) there. "While his daughter hid and watched she dared not breathe she was so still"- Katniss describes her shock in the book as if she were about to faint. "Just as an angel cried for the slaughter, Abraham's daughter raised her voice"- Abraham's daughter (Katniss) volunteers for her sister. -Monique xx
