Asking Alexandria: A Prophecy Meaning
Song Released: 2011
A Prophecy Lyrics
Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?
We'll be home soon,
So dry your eyes.
You'll be okay.
(You'll be okay.)
Oh my god the water it's rising, it's...

#1 top rated interpretation:Everybody is taking this wayyyy to literally. This is my interpretation but it could be wrong. Rather that the song being sung about a girl I thnk that it is arguments between two sides of Danny's brain. One side wants to dive deeper not a world of pain and suffering so that it will eventually all end, but the other side of his Brian is reaching out a helping hand trying to stop Danny from drowns in his sea of despair. He is trying to save him from himself and get home-a place where he is not afraid that the dark thoughs will veritable him and where he is happy

#2 top rated interpretation:At the beginning when he asks "how stubborn are those scars when they won't fade away, or just a gentle reminder that now are better days" he probably means that neither he nor the person (im assuming hes girlfriend) he's talking about can forget the things they have done to each other (i.e. cheating, lying, etc.)
"we'll be home soon so dry your eyes, you'll be okay" They probably got into an argument and it was so bad that his girlfriend started crying and now he's trying to calm her down.
"Oh my god the water it's rising, it's rising. You just have to believe in me, Failing that I'll ride this storm alone. We can still make it out. Fuck! I can help you through this. But you have to take my hand. I can take you home, Take my hand, Take my hand." he notices that the relationship is etting harder and he wants to fix it but he's saying he can't do it alone. he knows that she is feeling suicidal and he is trying to coax her out of it by saying "take my hand" he's saying he can help her only if she lets him in.
"I should've known the tides were getting higher. We can still survive, They think we're drowning, But our heads are still above the waves.(Above the waves)(I should've known the tides were getting higher... We can still survive Above the waves..." he knew that their relationship wasn't going to make it a while ago, but didn't want to say anything because he felt that they could fix it. everyone feels their relationship is going down-hill and isnt working out at all but he has faith that they have a small chance to make things right.
"You never said goodbye(Goodbye) And now your on your OWN! " she probably felt like she couldn't handle the pressure so she killed herself without warning the boy. he's upset that she left like that without saying goodbye. -

#3 top rated interpretation:This song is about how a guy and his GF had this huge argument so the GF drowned herself because she couldn't take it anymore, and she never let her BF know that she was going to kill herself so that's why in the end he screams, "YOU NEVER SAID GOODBYE!" n the beginning of the song he says, "I should of known the tides were getting higher..." which means he should of known that his GF was going to drown herself because as tides get higher, the water rises...causing the person to drown.

It's about the bible. A Prophecy: Noah's Ark.
Take his hand and believe in him, perhaps he's the only one capable of saving us all? Why scars show that now are better days? Scars are what come after you healed up, aren't they? Why better days, though? We can still survive? Water raising up towards the sky... A clear reference.
I don't want to completely give a mining to this songs, this'd completely trivialize the song, I think it's about how we make our own lies to cover up reasons... To move people into doing stuff, using god as a mean to that, listen to the other songs and you'll see what I mean with "god".
The meaning is given by you, depending in what you need the song for. -
It's basically someone in conflict with the dark side of themselves. I feel like it's in third person. Sometimes life is rough and it's like ''we're drowning'', but we have it in us to pull ourselves ''above the waves'', we just have to face our demons(bad things, fears) first.

I thought this was about one of his great friends, killing themself. I mean it could be anything but thats what i thought it meant.
-
I'm probably first to say this but I think it's the flood in the bible. When he says "They think were drowning, but our heads are still above the wawes" he means the Noah's ark where everybody died exept the people who believed in God. "The water is rising" says the same thing.

this song seems like it was about a bad breakup, the guy is always on tour and she didn’t trust him while he was gone so ended her life.
-
Maybe he sing about, that we can make our problems out, just believe, no matter what.. Its okay to be ourself, we can do what we want, but are we strong enough? And then your down, you are not alone.. Well, learn, and show world who ya are.. Its hard sometimes, but we know we love the life more, then we have some and fight for, and win..

I read a thing on YouTube that its about titanic about how they are off the ship and everyone thought they were drowning then he say but our heads are still above the waves and in the movie jack said he wouldn't let go in the song he says he won't let go and rose was a cutter hence how stubborn are those scars when they won't go away it all relates to the titanic story

you guys are idiots, taking things so literal.
"They probably got into an argument and it was so bad that his girlfriend started crying and now he's trying to calm her down."
the 'we'll be home soon, so dry your eyes' is simply speaking to the fact that it's tough maintaining a relationship while your out on tour, & he's saying to try & hold it together while he is away ...fucking other girls.
this song is so much simpler than what you may think. in the video, they have her drowning, purely for effect, because they put more in to their promo's & "hype" than they do the "art" of it, conceptually.
it's the dreadful new generation...
but dammit is it fun.
