We Stand Up Lyrics

I've watched the sun go dancing fall
i've watched the night reign
please note that casual observers are always
the first to go, so this is for me and the boys
we'll always play our part, to kick and scream
to be the ones you hate to love
I...

I think this song is all about life and the society today. They speak in first person in the first stanza saying that they will continue to question the world today, unlike the people that don't really care. They say blinking as in not staying focused on the topic/not staying open minded and then he says that he would continue to live the burden so that he can tell people the truth. But then again, if people are going to beat him down and hate on his opinion then he won't bother because its not worth telling to people that aren't listening."so choke on this and on my words,
and on us, and on my honesty " and the last part is self explanatory...cause this world is a perfect lie

This song is about how the band are going to stick through it all, no matter the cost.

"I've watched the sun go dancing fall
    And watched the night reign
    Please note that casual
Observers are always the first to go"

He's saying that he's been around a while, and watched how people in the music industry fare. He notes that people who aren't committed enough drop out fairly soon.

"So this is for me and the boys
    We'll always play our part
    To kick and scream
To be the ones you hate to love"

This shows that he is dedicated to the band, that they will always fight authority and how they are constantly ridiculed (be the ones you hate to love).

"I can never turn my back because this is all I know
You know all that is the truth
    We are all we have
In a world that corrupts the strongest soul
You know all that is the truth"

The first line talks about how he cannot back out of Atreyu now, as it's all that matters to him. Then he talks about how society breaks everyone in the end.

"If you blink don't do it twice
I've still got something to say here.
I will bear my heart to expose my soul.
If honesty has a price then I won't fucking pay dear.
We will take our dreams straight to the grave"

Brandon then comes in, asking people to sit up and take note of what they are doing. Then he says that if society asks so much for him to tell the truth, then fuck 'em. He won't let them. The last line rings true, saying that their dream will die with them, and that Atreyu will never be accurately replicated.

    "Go choke on this
    And on my words,
    And on us,
    And on my honesty.
    It's of no consequence
    Because I've seen the opulence"

Back to Alex, and he's asking for people to dare to question him, as he's being as brutally honest as he can. He knows he can do this because of a change that overcame him and changed him.

"The beauty I've held in my eyes
    If only for seconds
    Words will never take away
    What we have built together
With our hands, with our hearts, with our minds"

Obviously the change mentioned above was for the better, so maybe it is a marriage or a child being born. Then he ends his soliloquy saying that no-one can break down what they have created, because they have put so much effort into it.

"If this is just in our heads then
We'll keep on living the perfect lie
    One day at a time
    God bless our cheating hearts
    And damn your lies"

His last message is that if Atreyu is just an idea or a creation, then they will follow it until the end. Then there's a final "fuck you" with a double-edged sword of "our cheating hearts".
