Audioslave: I Am the Highway Meaning
Song Released: 2004
I Am the Highway Lyrics
Long and weary my road has been
I was lost in the cities
Alone in the hills
No sorrow or pity
For leaving i feel
I am not your rolling wheels
I am a highway
I am not your carpet ride
I am the...

I reckon this song is about a person finally coming out and telling everyone that he's no longer their stepping stone and that he is an individual who makes his own decisions, he's tired of always having people walk over and use him, possibly because of his fame, and finally comes out to say that he is not a means for those people to get what they want, it's his life and he's the one in control

I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT THIS SONG WAS ABOUT THE "SPIRIT MAN" WITHIN US ALL.Sometimes he is neglected because our other physical urges. At the root of one's self is the spirit man, the soul , the "highway". And if you travel through this life on a spiritual journey you have travel the road of enlightenment and power. The spirit is not just an accessory but the very core of us. I think they did a very good job of relaying this message. Loving one's own spirit and the spirit of those around us is the most important life lesson.

I've often thought that this song was kind of telling someone that you cannot take them there, but you can show them or tell them how to get there, but ultimately you need to do it on your own. I really like the other interpretations, that's the beauty of Cornell's and Vedder's lyrics, go with how it makes you feel. I gotta say, Cornell's voice with Audioslave is soothing, but commands respect/attention with Soundgarden. It would be wonderful to meet him and see how he views things in life, his take on life. He truly is an inspiration!

The first Line is actually:
Pearls and Swine Bereft of me
He's saying that he doesn't have riches and nice things if that helps anyone out. -
This song is about a guy telling a girl that he is more than she thinks he is. He says "I am not you're carpet ride, I am the sky" or " I am not you're rolling wheels, I am the highway." He is in love with her and is trying to prove to her that he can be and do more if she gives him the chance.

I think this song is about leaving. Just having enough with where you are and who your with. Tired of being screwed by "friends". Just getting in the car and leaving and not coming back.
