Bright Eyes: At the Bottom of Everything Meaning
At the Bottom of Everything Lyrics
-
Proto-existentialist philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, in an attempt to marry his despairing rational of existence and his belief in God, wrote; “If there were no eternal consciousness in a man, if AT THE BOTTOM OF EVERYTHING there were only a wild ferment, a power that twisting in dark passions produced everything great or inconsequential; if an unfathomable, insatiable emptiness lay hid beneath everything, what would life be but despair?”
Considering the context and illusions made in this song, I assume this is the origin of the title. The above quote is discussed in Camus 'The Myth of Sisyphus', which focuses on the absurdity of humanities attempts to explain life & was probably an influence on Conor Oberst, especially in this song. -
I think the song is about letting go, not stressing about success and just living life how you want

Despite challenges in life and seemingly disastrous situations we must preserve and be happy. We must control the only thing we can which is how we respond to bad circumstances. Smile and party through it all!!
-
You must live life to the fullest with no regrets
