i think that matt trying to say that he didnt take his life seriously when he had the chance and now he has to deal the results.

and i think he is trying to show a person who still has the ability to change his life to something good what are the results of not taking your life seriously and trying to change him... -
Curses is a song about people thinking too highly of themselves.
Matt just wants to go back to a simpler time. Before problems and decisions.
He's saying that the smallest things you do can have a HUGE impact that we may not even know about.

That's quite self-explanatory.
