Cavetown: Meteor Shower Meaning
Meteor Shower Lyrics
But perhaps it's just my stupid head in the end
Thinking should I wait here or make my way home?
You said, go
(You said, go)
Making up problems that don't exist
Why do I let myself dream like...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think Meteor Shower is about someone the singer cares about very greatly, wether platonic or romantic. The singer will do anything to make this person happy and safe. However, the singer has anxiety and stress that hold them back and causes them to convince themselves that their are problems when there aren't. It gets so bad that they begin to create whole scenarios or memories or similier things that never exist. These fake memories cause them increased stress that just puts them into a loop that may leave them with suicidal thoughts.
My other thought is that the singer is something of a ghost that is still suffering from depression (they probably died from suicide) and they are doing evrything to protect someone (possibly the listener) from depression which caused them to die and will do anything to keep them happy so they won't turn towards darker thoughts. -

#2 top rated interpretation:I believe that the vocalist is trying to warn the person the song's about from going down the same path as them and is willing to do anything to keep them safe. At one point, the singer says, "Missing pieces of my skull." Later on, they also say, "Sew up your skull, take your time." This could represent the singer warning the person they care about the path that they're following. In the line, "There's nothing you or I can do so let the stars fall." Since the stars represent the singer's thoughts, this line might show that the singer feels as if they're falling apart. They care about the person they're singing for significantly and would never wish their path upon them, so they are willing to do anything to care for them. An example of this is in the line, "I'd sell my own bones for sapphire stones because blue is your favorite color."

#3 top rated interpretation:I think Meteor Shower for me is told of a person who loves another person, they would do anything just for the other person. It shows in the lyrics, "I'd sell my own bones for sapphire stones, because blue is your favorite color.". This shows the person would do things for the other, so it's shown the song is about the person doing anything for the other.

I believe this song is about the experience Robin has. With it being between the man he wants to be and the gender he was born as. The song’s lyrics, “Missing pieces of my skull, I’ll sew on patches of my own soul.” Correspond with “Take it slow, you’ll know which way to go. Sew up your skull take your time.” Could be what he wishes he could speak to himself in the past. I may be wrong but I believe he’s trans so this could be his journey through that. The advice he wishes he had at a hard time during transitioning or something he tells himself even now.

I believe this song by Cavetown is supposed to represent a person (the one singing) loving and caring for someone so much they’d do anything to keep them from falling down their path. And the other person doesn’t reciprocate the love and care back. The lines “I’d sell my own bones for sapphire stones ‘cause blue was your favorite color” shows that the smallest detail of a person would mean as much as their literal bones to them.

to me this song represents an unhealthy one sided relationship (romantic or platonic) and "i'd sell my own bones for saohire stones because blue's your favorate color" is refering to someone who would take their life for this person. lyrics like "cause from up here, the sky is my thoughts and we'er all so small" i inturprate as the feling of rose colored glasses (often meaning being in a relationship and loving them so much that it consumes your entire life and red flags just look like flags) i find with most of cavetowns love sons they always have depresing undertones and i think thats because he has hade bad experiences with relationships and so being in love is quite terrifying

According to the way I like to personally interpret this, all the feelings and imagery in this song are so intense and bizarre that it reminds me of the feeling of a dream. The playful tune and music match up with how dreams can feel silly. And with that, the song describes being able to escape from the complications of life with a particular person. "I'd sell my own bones for sapphire stones, 'cause blue is your favorite color". I simply love this line. Usually, a person's favorite color does not have all that much meaning, but with this person, it's worth their own bones. It is parallel to how in real life, our small actions have huge meaning behind them and have a great impact too. That's how I like to look at it.

I see it as a trans person’s journey in discovering themselves. He knows that he can’t stay here, he know he has to “make his way home”, but he is still unsure. He can’t understand why he’s allowing himself to have those thoughts, imagining becoming another person, or more precisely who he actually feel at home as. But, when he does, he feels like as if he is flying, that he feels like the “sky’s his thoughts”. I think the missing piece of his skull part is a metaphor to his body which he is unsatisfied with, and I believe “sapphire stone” represents HRT, hormones replacement therapy. In the end, he tells himself to take his time, and take it slowly, and reassure himself that he will know his way on his way back home.

A person who cares for another and wants everything for them and would do anything to get it. As said in ‘I’d sell my own bones for sapphire stones, ‘cause blue is your favourite colour’ also showing the person knows the others interests, etc.
I really love this song and the meaning just as much! <3 -
i can see the fact the person who sings this is so obsessed with someone they would sacrifice themselves to make their person happy
-
The song “Meteor Shower” is about a person and who they love as they go through a metaphorical of a literal meteor shower. The person speaking cares very much about the other and would sacrifice many things for them and says so throughout the song.
