Cavetown: Pigeon Meaning
Pigeon Lyrics
Why has nothing changed?
Feed cucumber sandwich to a pigeon
Chipping nail varnish on guitar strings
Got a pillow case made out of money
Feelin' pretty fake when I wake up
Tissue paper castle paper caddy
Scaly...

#1 top rated interpretation:I’m pretty sure it is about his Chameleon Casper when he passed away. Big bowl in the sky is about him, and he passed away recently while Robin/Cavetown has been mourning about it for some time

#2 top rated interpretation:i think this song might be about death/mourning. the chorus makes it sound like the person is dying with the "Didn’t give me time to say goodbye in the way that I wanted to" or "Don’t you wanna give me time to write another song for you?" later in verse 2 he says that they're missing someone and that he's mad because of that. last verse of the last chorus part "Don’t know how I’m gonna live without, but I’ll stay strong for you" makes it sound like the person actually died and Cavetown is trying to stay strong through the grief. sorry if this was confusing!!

#3 top rated interpretation:I'm 10 just so you dont take me seriously lol i think this song means like hes mourning someone probably someone he lost to suicide or something like that because "dont you want to give me time to write another song for you" also the mourning i got that from "drink away the pain" because also "didnt give me time to say goodbye in the way that i wanted to"

I relate to this song in a way so I’ll say what it means to me
The singer had a best friend who they cared for deeply and defended with their life but the person turned out to be abusive/toxic and the singer is still trying to accept the fact that the one person they had trust in left them when they needed them most and can’t hate them no matter how much they try. I think the lyric “why has nothing changed” is talking about how they can’t change their opinion on the person and can’t just let them go even though they stabbed them in the back -
The intended meaning of this song is Cavetown mourning the loss of a beloved pet. However, I imagine this song sung from the perspective of an abusive person who is upset their victim got away.
I imagine they created an environment of fear. They insulted their companion, threatened to take their life, destroyed their prized possessions all in an attempt to control them. However, this person got fed up with their abuse and cut them out.
The narrator voices their frustration that victim left them. They feel abandoned. They can't comprehend why their ex acquaintance/partner didn’t stay by them “like they were supposed to”. They feel entitled to a relationship with the victim when they never intended to reciprocate their support or for the dynamic to be equal.
They try to convince themselves they are a good person by creating a narrative in which they are the hero and their ex the villain. They “saved” their victim and their victim should be grateful to have been graced by their presence. Overall, they don’t want to admit the relationship ending was their fault or acknowledge the pain they caused. -
This song is about Casper passing for sure. for example ”scaly little friends got my back up”
and “didn't give me time to say goodbye in the way that i wanted to”
We all know he mourned Casper death greatly and this would make a lot of sense. -
i think its about a guy stuck between mourning and despising a dead person, maybe a significant other who they had a fall out with
