Coldplay: Magic Meaning
Song Released: 2014
Covered By: Jasmine Thompson
Magic Lyrics
Call it true
Call it magic
When I'm with you
And I just got broken
Broken into two
Still I call it magic
When I'm next to you
And I don't, and I don't and I don't, and I don't
No, I don't,
It's true
I don't, no, I...

If you replace the word "magic" with "love" everywhere in the song, then read all the lyrics, the song is obviously about a breakup but still loving who you've just broken up with. Given that this song came out a few months after Chris's marriage broke down, it's obviously about working out how to cope with that situation.

I believe the line "and I just got broken, broken into two" refers to two sides of himself, one side he wants to get rid of (as in the music video, the negative mean side) and wants the magic "love" to continue but he knows he has to get rid of the negative mean side of himself if he ever wanted it. This song definitely was for Gwen and I think it says a lot of their relationship, he was probably harsh to her or going through something that brought a darker side of himself. Yet even having these two sides, one that loved her so much and the other that was possesive and hurtful, he knew he wanted her and that their love was "magic"

I agree it’s about the magic of being in love.
I personally think the ‘broken into two’ line though could mean that you give half of yourself to the other person when you’re in love. -
I think that this song is about heartbreak and how to he's still in love with that person but he doesn't want to be, this person has obviously broken his heart, when he sings "and I just got broken, broken into two", but eventhough she did that to him he still in love with her "still I call it magic, when I'm with you"
You don't know if magic is real or not and I suppose he means that he doesn't know if he still wants to love her or if he wants to move on.
I also think it's about him remembering his past relationship and how he still wants to be with her Eventhough she's moved on. It's a very good song and I love it!! -
I feel this song is about a man in pain, confused and the only thing he knows is that their relationship is magical and he doesn't want to make it work with anyone else. Its about fighting through the tough times in a relationship.....see the magical aspects of love

Magic in its true sense is something which is not only beautiful but also cannot be explained. So he uses the word "Magic" for the love he feels for her.
Even though their relationship is now over and he is broken into two, his feelings for his beloved are not changed.
After all the torture he went through at the breaking point of their relationship, he still manages to love her and believes in her "Magic". -
"Magic" is about misconception because you never no whether magic is reality or allusion. Chris Martin is probably inferring that he still feels stuck in a beautiful reality with Gwyneth, but deep down knows that he is dreaming about the past and cannot imagine being with anyone else but her. He probably is unsure of his feelings, whether he still really loves her or just tricked himself into believing that he does.
-
I think he is singing to the person who he is still in love with even though he is was broken/cut by her. Right now he doesn't want anyone else and is not over her; but when he says he wants to fall hard, it's in general. He wants to fall in love again and feel love (magic) for someone else. He still believes in love (magic) after all his pain.

Whatever the song true meaning may be, only the songwriter will really know. What I do know, is that I absolutely LOVE this song! I love the lyrics, the beat, the guitar, I could just listen to this full blast in my car over and over!!!! The sound just makes me happy, peaceful, and smile! Love it

I think this is a song about a guy that needs to stop being so whipped.

I like your theory of it being with someone new but i personally think its about Gwyneth saying how much he loved her and that it was magic. He is going through a real life break up and by saying how "i don't and i don and i don't and i don't want anybody else but you" is a bit of a confusing reference, perhaps suggesting that he isn't sure how he feels about it. Although it didn't last, Chris is reflecting on his brilliant relationship that didn't work out. When you go through a breakup, you are devastated, you cant see yourself with anyone else and this might explain it if he is going through this phase. A beautiful song that brings a tear to my eye <3

I feel as if this song is about starting a relationship with someone new, possibly one's best friend, after getting your heart broken.
When he sings, "And I just got broken, Broken into two. Still I call it magic, When I'm next to you" he is saying he just got his heart broken by someone else, but he believes the relationship he has with this significant other is "magic" because he is healing from his past heart break.
Throughout the song, he also says he doesn't want anyone else but the person he's dating. This usually happens, and is refereed to as the "honey moon phase" where a new couple is completely infatuated with one another and feels as if they are invisible. This is shown when he says, "Cut me into two, And with all your magic, I disappear from view" showing his feelings of invisibility.
And last of all, when he says "Wanna fall, I fall so far. I wanna fall,I fall so hard" he is saying he is looking forward to falling in love with the person he's in a relationship with. This shows that he may not yet be in love, but he is looking forward to it.
As far as the best friend part goes, i thought it may be a strong possibility he is in a relationship with his "best friend" when he says in his song, "And if you were to ask me, After all that we've been through, Still believe in magic, Oh yes I do". The reason i think this may (or i could be wrong) be about him being in a relationship with a close or best friend is because he mentions that he's been through a lot with this particular person.
