Quite simply in my eyes, a song about infidelity in a failing relationship (Whether an "Official" relationship or just one of two people who want to be together but can't for many reasons) in which neither of the parts wants to feel lonely. Seeing that things don't have high hopes in a potential relationship, they seek the simulated warmth that someone else can give in a time of despair. And so, even though there is no real relationship between the singer and the singed to, there is a feeling of guilt and reciprocity nonetheless.
