Dave Matthews Band: Dream Girl Meaning
Song Released: 2005
Dream Girl Lyrics
Unless of course I was there
then I¡¯d dig my way home
If by diggin¡¯ I could steal
the wind from the sails
of the greedy men who ruled the world
Still you¡¯re my best friend
And after a good, good...

What can be said about this song besides it's incredible beat and somber lyrics.
Honestly the song is all about the passionate relationship between a couple that are literally bestfriends with one another. The moments where you feel like so special and so close to someone that it feels too good to be true. They are your best friend, and you literally dream about them because they have such a profound impact on your life.
This song I feel like is just administering the voyeuristic side like most of the songs Dave writes. It is his way of saying that you dream about your best friend, but you know inside she is only a dream, but you admire her from a distance, you wish at all times you could be with her, and make love to her, but at the same time she is just your best friend. -
I believe that Dream Girl is a fascist's laborious look at the inner workings of the innate human nature.

I think this song is about that woman on every man's life, their best friend, deep down inside they know she's perfect but sometimes they find out when it's too late:) think our guys is smart though..

He starts off a little strange but later it seems he is just happy with this girl (possibly only in his dream) who gets drunk with him and has sex with him. He wants to "follow the sweat down your spine" because he always wants to be with her, in her, a part of her. She is like a dream because she is so perfect. She has swept him off his feet over and over again like a wave knocking him over. It has been a long relationship, and he is still madly in love.
