Dave Matthews Band: The Space Between Meaning
Song Released: 2001
The Space Between Lyrics
Is no hope in you for me
No corner you could squeeze me
But I got all the time for you, love
The Space Between
The tears we cry
Is the laughter keeps us coming back for more
The Space Between
The wicked...

It’s like the most amazing love that is only present on a certain plane of existence. I think it’s about how beautiful the relationship is between the 2 in their own little bubble. And the sadness is the reality where they can’t be together. I think the lyrics “where you’ll find me if I get to go” symbolizes this magical place where they can go and be in love with no outside interference. It’s just the 2 of them in this realm between what they want and what is.

He wrote it about Jennifer Grey who he proposed to three times and she turned him down all three times.

The space between is the space that separates us from our true love, our soul mate persay. Couples tend to fall in and out of love throughout a relationship. Hopefully, once again falling deeper into love with that person. A space between are those times that we are out of love, fighting the battles of indifference. Yet fighting our own demons, telling oneself the wicked lies about ourselves and the lies we tell ourselves in hopes of changing that person into what we think and often times imagine they should be all at the expense of a dying heart. The space between is that time in limbo our heart endures to feel that love we both need to sustain us through life. Is it not true that "Love is Bliss" if you have ever felt it before you know what I'm talking about. And if you have been lucky enough to experience such bliss you know how hopeless one feels at such a love loss. Have you been lucky enough?

This song points out that there's only one moment that we all strive for. Moments of Love. All else, including the tears we cry, are only motions we must go through until the next moment of Love. You could say that this keeps us going in a way. Moment by moment.
