Dave Matthews Band: Hunger For The Great Light Meaning
Hunger For The Great Light Lyrics
Oh great light of love
Oh great light of love
Here you go, you dirty girl
Good God, try to love try to oh
God's love is alive inside you
You know who needs you
I wanna be your hunger
I wanna see you open...
-
I know it! LOL what else could it be?? hehe Beautiful
-
This is the greatest DMB song- not necessarily because it is the BEST, but because it's about God and oral sex. What could be better?
"You come like an answered prayer. Praise God..."
If you were to take this outside of the song it would be hard to interpret it as anything other than religious.
But when you place it into the context of the song- oh my amazingness. This is AGAIN another instance of him using the word Come in two different ways at the same time.
And where does the name come from, you might ask.
Great Light of Love- Light of love is a wonderful (and fairly common) name for god. It is wonderful how he uses it to very clearly symbolize the vagina as well as it is also the reason for our being ;). No but seriously, women have always been worshipped for their ability to conceive children and thus continue life on this earth- furthermore linking them to God-the father/creator of all life on earth as well.
And also "I have the little death delight" references not only death in the overt sense, but an orgasm as it is refered to in French as "Le petite morte", or "the tiny death." To orgasm is to die- yet another link between sex and god. -
I'm not completely positive, but I'm pretty sure stefan requested that it be about sex.
-
The guitar for this song was written by Stefan Lessard, who is into more punk music. When Dave heard the sound of it, he knew it had to be about sex.Yes, this song is about oral sex. "I wanna be your hunger I wanna see you open wide And then I could go down for you I wanna blow your mind"
