Ellie Goulding: Anything Could Happen Meaning
Anything Could Happen Lyrics
We fall into the river
Cover your eyes
So you don't know the secret
I've been trying to hide
We held our breath
To see our names are written
On the wreck of '86
That was the year
I knew the panic was over
Yes...

-
if you read the bible you'll know this song is about fallen angels, the devil. gross

I just commented but after seeing the video I wanted to say that the video seems to be about a car wreck that her boyfriend was in. So it could be about that or just about a break-up.
-
I feel like no one really knows what this song is about since everyone has vastly different opinions. I assumed it's about a relationship at first but I'm not sure.

In my view, this is Ellie Goulding's "My Generation". It can take your breath when you grow up to notice that the year of your birth is marked by such events as Chernobyl or Challenger. And someone who has taken classes in politics (as Ellie Goulding has done) must know about the panic in the early Eighties when many people were afraid of a thermonuclear exchange between the superpowers. But soon after the mentioned disasters this panic was over when the USA and the USSR started peace talks and especially when the Soviet block started to crumble. Some augurs expected everlasting peace on earth, all humans coming together to fight for democracy and human rights (e.g. Francis Fukuyama, The End of History and the Last Man). And what did we get instead of this? Civil war in Yugoslavia, 9-11, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan etc. So the darkness of war did not subside, it grew, and politicians kept telling us that we still needed these dark military instruments. Nowadays we are stripped to the waist by courtesy of the new media (let alone NSA & Co.), and if anyone wants not to know our secrets, he has to cover his eyes. Does not teach us this that anything could happen, that our - positive and negative - expectations (on what level soever) are disappointed again and again? And this insight leaves its mark also on personal relationships from which we expect the absolute fulfillments of all our needs, knowing that we do not need each other absolutely. Why should we not feel, then, as if we were falling into a river, never with firm ground below our feets?

it was because a train wreck in 1986
-
She was born on 1986 so........IDK
-
I think the song is about a couple who died in a car wreck in 86. They were surprised to be dead so quickly and realized life is so short and "anything could happen".

I feel like this is a spiritual/religious meaning, stripped to the waist we fall into the river is referencing baptism, cover your eyes so u dunt know the secret is clearly referencing the mystery of God and faith, we held our breath to see if our names are written sounds like referencing the book of life, perhaps this wreck refers to someone who passed away and now seeks their name in the book of life. And references to a war could be a apocalyptic war or armageddon where angels and humans alike must fight evil together.

Souls decided to be humans long ago. We were here during the times of Atlantis and lived in peace and harmony. However we never learned anything. We decided to forget who we are and invited wars and conflict to teach us lessons. But this cycle has ended and the dark angels we invited are going to leave. I would really like to know what the wreck of 86 is. I think some sort of decision was made then. Harmonic convergence happened in 87 to restore balance.

I think of fallen angels and Nephilim.
Matthew 24:24
Matthew 24:37
Genesis 6
Daniel 2:42 -
I think this means that the possibilities are endless. You just have to believe it will happen, and believe in yourself.
