Emilie Autumn: Opheliac Meaning
Opheliac Lyrics
I've been so disillusioned
I know you'd take me back
But still I feigned confusion
I couldn't be your friend
My world was too unstable
You might have seen the end
But you were never able
To keep me breathing
As the...

The word 'opheliac' means someone obsessed. When she says 'I'm your opheliac' the person she's speaking to is the object of her obsession. What we have to keep in mind is that Emilie Autumn has bipolar disorder. This is exactly what the song is about. It's about her two personalities being at war with eachother so much that she doesn't know who she is anymore.
Also she quotes Shakesphere which means his poetry is her calm place. -
It's about Ophelia and her obsession with Hamlet.
-
its about being really depressed and you don't know what to do anymore. you feel like your drowning and eveyrones trying to save you, but you won't let them. " power to know how to keep me breathing as the water rises"
its about when everyones your enemey you can;t believe in yourself. when you've done some horrible things or been in terrible situations. and when theres nothing more you can do you blame it on the ones you love.
You know the lies I tell
When you've gone through hell
And I say I can't stay
You know how hard it can be
To keep believing in me
When everything and everyone
Becomes my enemy and when
There's nothing more you can do
I'm gonna blame it on you
It's not the way I want to be
I only hope that in the end you will see
It's the Opheliac in me
in the end she says its the madness in her. and throughout everything thats happening, she says doubt everything, doubt truth to be a liar but NEVER DOUBT I LOVE. -
The song is based off of the character Ophelia from Hamelot. Emilie has stated in an interview that she found it amusing that so many people have glamourized her, seeing as she was, according to her, manic depressive, and in the end took her own life. She was an important female in history, despite being a fictional character, and this led to the writing of the song.
