Evanescence: Cloud Nine Meaning
Cloud Nine Lyrics
If you want to go, let go.
I'm not afraid to dream, to sleep, sleep forever.
I don't need to touch the sky.
I just want to feel that high,
And you refuse to lift me.
Guess it wasn't real after all.
Guess it...

#1 top rated interpretation:"if you want to go, let go"
"I don't need to touch the sky
i just wanna feel that high
and you refuse to lift me"
about being dissatisfied with a relationship, to the point where it's doing nothing for her and she wants out.
"guess it wasn't real after all
guess it wasn't real all along"
"if I fall and all is lost
it's where I belong"
about realizing this and accepting a broken heart, and starting from scratch
"i'm never gonna be your sweet, sweet surrender"
she wants to be valued for who she is, not used. The surrender part sort of puzzles me, so if anyone has ideas...
"in a dream, will you give your love to me?
Beg my broken heart to beat?
Save my life, change my mind"
about the fact that the relationship isn't working in real life, but she still dreams about it being story book perfect.
This is my favourite song off the album, please don't yell at me if you don't agree with my interpretation xd -
I appreciated all of the interpretations here but I have to say one thing , Amy herself said this song was written about her marriage !I mean it is about her husband " Josh " for sure . she said it in one of her concerts : Yahoo Live Set .This is the sentence she said back then : "I just got married 6 months ago & that's what cloud nine is about "

Ok. I don’t know, but I think this song could be about fame (or something) + love.
I’m going to explain why:
I think she feels empty and she wants to be famous or do something (it mustn’t have to be about fame.) to feel important and get away this emptiness.
I don't need to touch the sky.
I just want to feel that high,
But there’s a person, an important person in her life saying: “Stop. It can be dangerous. It’s not what you really want.”
And you refuse to lift me.
I think this song is about her trying to persuade him. Saying: “Yes! It’s what I want and I'm not afraid.”
If you want to live, let live.
If you want to go, let go.
I'm not afraid to dream,
to sleep, sleep forever.
She says; agree with the person, that maybe he is right and it's not what she wants.
Guess it wasn't real after all.
Guess it wasn't real all along.
But at the same time, she says that she doesn’t have nothing to lose, because now, she is nothing so...
If I fall and all is lost,
It's where I belong.
If I fall and all is lost,
No light to lead the way,
Remember that all alone is where I belong.
But wait, because there’s something more: She says that she love the person who “refuse to lift her”. So she says: “If you give your love to me, I will let my idea, because with your love, I will be not alone and I will be happy and I won't feel empty and alone.”
In a dream,
Will you give your love to me?
Beg my broken heart to beat,
Save my life, change my mind.
I know I have a lot of imagination and I’m probably wrong. But that’s my interpretation. -
ok idk why so many ppl assume that its always a relationship with some guy. Cloud nine is the title of this just like katy perry's new song says falling from cloud nine ...they all think shes talking about a guy when rlly shes talking about god, just because it says love ppl doesnt automatically mean intimate. Anyways shes saying...in my opinion...that if your not going to save my soul when i am broken and weak ..then i was never meant to be saved and i will stay this way and she accepts it or watevr i guess.

I'm surprised nobody has thought of this song as another song about sleeping to get away from the real world. not everything has to be about a relationship people. Although this song pales in comparison to Imaginary, if you look at it similarly in the most simplistic sense, its actually kind of deep.
"If you want to live, let live.
If you want to go, let go."
Some people enjoy their lives outside of sleep and vise versa.
"I'm not afraid to dream, to sleep, sleep forever."
Nothing to say here. It alone proves my point.
"I don't need to touch the sky.
I just want to feel that high,
And you refuse to lift me."
Wants to feel the sensation of a dream in the real world, but she cannot be granted that.
"guess it wasn't real after all
guess it wasn't real all along"
She wakes up
"if I fall and all is lost
it's where I belong"
"Falling" Referring to waking up, and "all is lost" referring to everything that she had gained in the dream is gone. She starts to believe she was destined to not gain her desires.
"i'm never gonna be your sweet, sweet surrender"
She's dreaming again, dreaming about rebelling and becoming more powerful than those who wish to pull her down in the real world.
"No light to lead the way"
I'm not sure what this is. I'd like to say its about God but I know people are sick of hearing that.
"in a dream, will you give your love to me?
Beg my broken heart to beat?
Save my life, change my mind"
Yet again, she's dreaming. Dreaming about someone she is in love with, or some friend or whatever who "saves her" from her life and changing her mind about any doubts she has, maybe even committing suicide.
Also to note, that the name "Cloud Nine" could also very well be a reference to sleeping and dreaming, since that expression is about feeling good sensations, which is what people can have when having a good dream. The expression also can be used as "sleeping 'on cloud nine'". If sleeping is what this song is all about, then the name ties extremely well, and it should be what the song is about. -
I feel like this song is for BEN MOODY
He left the band and the friendship he had with Amy and that's her feeling about it, about what he used to cause her -
I think that this is a song about her loving someone but him not loving her back so she can't stand that fact so she is saying that she wants to die.
The part that made me think this was
"in a dream
Will you give your love to me?
Beg my broken heart to beat
Save my life change my mind"
Like her heart is broken and she wants his love. If in at least a dream can they be together and that would change her mind. -
A LOVE SO STRONG THAT THE GIRL WANTS IT AND SHE CANT HAVE IT THEN ITS NOTHING.
Amy lee is saying that if you wanna go n leave me so go on go and never come back but i m not gonna be your sweet surrender and just move on to someone else. if u wanna live your own way then i have a right to live the way i want to as well. Its either you or nothing for me.
Im not afraid to dream and ill sleep forever(ILL DIE).
Will u give me your love in a dream at least? means that when i will die, when ill go to where i really belong, a world of coldness, WILL YOU AT LEAST REMEMBER ME AND LOVE ME THEN? -
I AM NOT TRYING TO HATE ON AMY LEE, but when i first heard this song i thought it was about having a lover that was into drugs, and that they wouldnt let u get high like them, so u decided to do it alone and u had hallucinations.
once again, not tryin to hate on Amy cuz i luv her...so thats just my interpretation. :D -
Um, I think this song is a comfort that if she can't love and be loved in life it doesn't matter cause that's the way it is for her and that is where she belongs...that she should stop worrying about the love part and get a grip about it.. I think cloud nine is a comfort that's all...
-
I think maybe she's saying to someone that if they want the relationship to work, then they need to commit. She's saying that "you refuse to lift me", and that to me seems like the person is refusing to help her, thus we are back to the commitment theme
-
I agree with the very first interpretation...mainl because I am living in the same kind of relationship. No matter how much love I show..it doesn't seem to matter. I am so scared to make a plunge and jut give this my all cause I am scared to fall and have "all" be "lost". I always keep thinking that I will end up like my mom and be alone and so I think that even though I have faith in this relationship I fear it really won't worlk out and that he is just playing a game and that it was never real love but he never fully leads me to believe that he either loves me or is just using me..so now that we are talking about getting married ...I fear that I will fall and all will be lost and that I will end up a lone cause I am not good enough....which make me believe that is the REAL interpretation casue she then made the song "good enough" that makes me feel like she is like me and has low self esteem and wonders if she is really good enough for the guy she is with
That's why she thinks this isn't real and there is an alterior motive behind it besides true love, which is also why she references her sis in the"like you" song saying THat's real Love

its about being in love and getting nothing back
the part
"when I fall and all is lost its where I belong"
is saying that if they leave she is meant to be alone
and I like how she says '*when* I fall' as if she knows she will -
I think that mainly it's about acceptance. "if I fall and all is lost, its where I belong." she's getting over 'him ' and is willing to accept any outcome. 'guess it wasn't real after all' is about coming to reality and getting over him. Sorry if I'm just repeating what people have already said.
-
This is basically my theme song. Everytime I feel like I've meet someone who belongs with me, I feel like they're the only one, and if they turn me down, then I feel like I was meant to be alone.
Anyway, I've been thinking about when she says,
save my life
change my mind
is it just me, or does that sound suicidal? I know not every song she writes is about suicide (i'm a little annoyed at myself for saying it) but there's some definate evidence in the lyrics that imply it. -
I think it's about loving someone, and realizing that it wasn't real and that they never loved them in return. Their advancements were never in interest but lust (possibly) or just misunderstood, and that they are too exausted to care saying "that all alone is where I belong," trying to make some sense of a hopeless circumstance. Creating a place to fit in, even if it is inevitably in the dark (facing life alone).
Or, at least that’s how I interpreted it personally. ^_^
