Evanescence: Hello Meaning
Hello Lyrics
Rain clouds come to play, again
Has no one told you she's not breathing?
Hello, I am your mind giving you someone to talk to... Hello
If I smile and don't believe
Soon I know I'll wake from this...
-
Yeh, guys, it's definitely about her sister. Amy wrote it about her sister, Bonnie, who died age 3. Amy was 6 at the time, and this song is about how she coped.
Has no one told you she's not breathing? - obvious, thats the sister
Hello I am your mind giving you someone to talk to - trying to comfort herself
If I smile and don't believe
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream - shes saying that if she believes hard enough and just tries to not accept what's happened, she can make it so it didn't
Don't try to fix me, I'm not broken - shes either saying leave me because i want to cope on my own, or she's saying leave me, im not broken, its my sister whos broken help her instead
Hello I am the lie living for you so you can hide - i think this is definitely about herself saying 'dont worry, you can pretend this didn't happen'. the lie, obviously pretending that it didn't happen, so you can hide, forget it and remain in her child's world where no-one dies
Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping - suddenly she knows that what's happened is real and its not going to change
Hello I'm still here - this is her saying that she's still going to be okay
All that's left of yesterday - yesterday is the time before her sister died. she's saying that she'll remember her sister -
This song is about her little sister Bonnie dying at the age of 3 when Amy was 6 & how she coped with it.
-
The song is dedicated to her little sister Bonnie who happened to die when she was at the age of 3 & Amy was 6. When she says "playground school bell rings again, rain clouds come to play again." she's saying that she got the news while she was in school & she's describing all that's surrounding her. "has no one told you she's not breathing? Hello I'm you're mind giving you someone to talk to hello" she's saying that her teacher/principal told her about her sister officially passing away and that she's trying to calm herself down from that. "if I smile and don't believe, soon I'll wake from this dream" she's not believing it at first so she smiles as if it were a dream and that she'll soon wake up. "Don't try to fix me I'm not broken, hello I'm the lie living for you so you can hide don't cry" means that everyone talks and treats her special or different as if her heart were broken and that she's lying to herself to keep from crying or showing her pain. "Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping hello I'm still here all that's left of yesterday." means that she knew after a while that it was true..that her sis really did died and that people are talking about her as if she weren't there and that she would forever remember her last day with her sis.
-
Although I DO know that it's about her little sister, I always imagined that at the begining she was in a hospital room and could feel the death of someone's loved one in the room.
though she didn't know that person she tried talking to them and they were not respondent, eventually she tried to comfort them and her hand goes through Their shoulder. She looks at the -
it is really deep, and not deep too
It is amy feel, about love, about memory of love and love her memories.
Amy is so emotional like me,and her feels is beautiful like herself. -
I am performing this song for a school concert next week. I was unaware of its meaning, but now that I am, I will do my best not to hurt it...
-
This song is, indeed about how Amy's little sister dying when she was six.
"Playground...school bell rings...again.
Rainclouds..come...to play...again."
Those lines describe the day and setting where her sister died-- on the playground on a rainy day.
"Has no one told you she's not breathing?"
Amy learns of her sisters death.
"Hello.
I'm your mind... giving you someone to talk to
hello."
She's in shock so she tries to talk it all out in her head.
"If I smile and don't believe,
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream."
She refuses to believe it, so she smiles to cheer herself up and pretends that this is all a dream that she will wake up from. She convinces herself successfully.
"Don't try to fix me!
I'm not broken!"
This line could have several different meanings. It could be people being sorry for her loss, people comforting her and she doesn't know why, if this is all just a dream...
It could also mean people think she's crazy because she hasn't reacted to her sisters death, and they try to seek her some help.
"Hello.
I'm the lie, living for you so you can hide."
She is still convinced that this will all be over, living a lie so she can hide from the reality that she refuses to believe.
"Suddenly, I know I'm not sleeping."
She finally peels back her protective cover of comforting lies and faces the truth-- this isn't really a dream. She's indeed awake, and her sisters never, ever coming back.
"Hello!? I'm still here! All that's left of yesturday."
I interpurt that line as her yelling for her sister. "Hello? I'm still here, on Earth, without you. I'm all that's left of yesturday. Out of you and me, I'm all that's left."
But the song can also be from her sisters point of view. She dies, doesn't think it's real, finds out it is, then screams to be noticed. That she's not really gone, not really.
So, in short, this song could be either sisters talking to themselves as well as their sister. It could very well be both. -
My interpretation is that this is a song of heart break... I know everyone says it is about the sis but I'm just saying how I interpret it... I think that it is about a heart break among a teen... "Playground school bell rings again, Rain clouds come to play again" suggest a school kid and when the "bell" rings to release the kids, the one that has been hurt before can't face others because they can't trust them and the way I think when I was hurt was that I was always clouded, that rain represented best how I felt.. "Has no one told you she's not breathing?" When you face heartbreak, you feel like you are dead, that no one could ever understand you. your dead but no one will ever know so they have to be told and not breathing also represents death at times... "Hello I'm your mind giving you someone to talk to, Hello" When you feel heartbreak, again I say, you feel alone. you start to think more and in a sense "talk" to yourself to try and figure out what happened and why... "If I smile and don't believe, Soon I know I'll wake from this dream" most people deal with heartbreak by trying to show the cause that they are better off without them and put on a smile. It is also a self denial, because you think if you can lie to others so easily about it maybe you can convince yourself that everything is all right, that it is just a bad dream and it will pass... "Don't try to fix me, I'm not broken" is also part of the denial or trying to show your alright. If you repeat a lie so many times, eventual you CAN convince yourself that the lie is true so it is the person that is hurt trying to convince themself... "Hello I am the lie living for you so you can hide, Don't cry" is them reassuring the cause that they don't need to blame themselves for hurting the teen that hurts, that they will lie. It could also mean that the hurt one is starting to stop lying to themselves because they know that no matter how hard they try they can't believe it and it is a last attempt to belive it... "Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping" is the person finally accepting the fact that they arent loved anymore and it is the worst part of the heartbreak cause it causes the most self hatred... "Hello I'm still here" is the last call for help, the last call because they don't think themselves worthy enough to be helped but it is a try for help, the last hope that someone still loves them somewhere.... "All that's left of yesterday " in history, all we know is the writings and artifacts from "yesterday". likewise the hurt person is basically saying that only the physical body remains, that they are slowly dying on the inside.... my interpretation might be wrong, but I think this every time I hear the song.. Its probably stupid but hey, its all I got...
-
I already submitted my interpretation but I'd just like to say do any of you have brains? Most of these "interpretations" that I have read are just saying what the song was written about... meaning the death of her sister. and I thought this site was lyrics INTERPRETATION .com... does anyone know what the word INTERPRETATION means? heres a dictionary meaning: an explanation of the meaning of another's artistic or creative work... That means you try to tell people what you think the words in the song mean, a song is like a poem. It isn't supposed to be taken litterally. So use your little brains and write an actual interpretation and if you don't know what the song means, NOT WHAT IT WAS WRITTEN ABOUT OR WHY IT WRITTEN. The meaning. Then don't submit anything. Read between lines people that is what poetry and songs are about. So stop writting the same thing everyone else is because it doesn't make you sound smart to try to make your words fancier and bigger when you are saying the same damn thing everyone else is. You all need to take some poetry and/or poetic interpretation classes. If anyone has a REAL interpretation I'd love to hear it. All I hear about is her sisters death over and over and about how the song shows how she suffered through it. There are a few who seem to try interpret but they are taking the words too literal. It seems people in this world are forgetting how to read and learn. Will someone actually pick up a book, a poem, or maybe try to write yourself, just because we have the luxury of computers and technology doesn't mean we shouldnt read, write, and learn, use your brains cause it can be fun and you might just like it. Anyways I said my piece you may not like it but that's your problem and you probably don't like it because you sent in one of those so called "interpretations" yourself and/or maybe it's because you know I'm speaking the truth.

I think that the part that says "has no one told you she's not breathing" is about how everyones going about their business while she's depressed and wondering how everyone can still act normal when her sister just died. It sounds like her sister meant the world to her.
-
It seems to me it's about Columbine and what happened on that day. Or maybe she lost someone she really cared about.
-
Sounds like it's about a molestation to me
-
Ok after reading every one's comment I think you all missed something
she is alone maybe in depression (cos of her sis dying) and she is dreaming that she and her sis are playing together like always
then her mind tell her that that her sis is not longer alive this is a lie and she is dreaming
and she is telling her mind that let her be like this don't want to wake up
but in end she wakes up from this lie and realises that only left is memories of her (sis) from yesterday and she have to live on w/o her :( -
Evanescence Hello is a song written about the emotions she feels about that unspeakable day her little sister died at 3 and Amy was six... Since I have lost 5 people in my life in the past 4 years and a couple before that I know these emotions quite too well...
HELLO
Playground school bell rings again
Rain clouds come to play again
---in this she is seeing, hearing all the same sights and sounds she did before her sisters' death, but now they all seem to not matter, as all of these things would only remind her of her sister and how much she misses her when she just wants it all to stop.---
Has no one told you she's not breathing?
Hello I'm your mind giving you someone to talk to
Hello
--it's almost as if her inner self that is dying is telling her outter self, who tries to keep it together... didn't you hear she's gone...as she is slipping into the darkness...--
If I smile and don't believe
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream
---it's like she's saying to herself... If I pretend it is all a lie I can get through this maybe I will wake up in bed, maybe it's a nightmare, god let it be...---
Don't try to fix me, I'm not broken
---here I believe she's saying, to anyone/everyone out there, family, friends, or anyone... I'm fine, I don't need you to feel sorry for me, hug or hold me, it's not real and I'm fine---
Hello I am the lie living for you so you can hide
Don't cry
---this means, like the dream(nightmare) part, she's lieing to herself that its not real (since death is such a hard thing to deal with pretending and lies can be easier than truth) meaning she wants to keep believing its a dream, lie---
Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping
---she soon breaks down realizing she can't pretend and hold the pain in anymore she finally comes back to reality and confronts it (its like she wakes up to a nightmare instead of going to sleep to one)---
Hello I'm still here
All that's left of yesterday
---she's saying she's awake, still alive but much has died or broke inside--- -
"playground school bell rings again
rain clouds come to play again "
These first lines are implying that everything normal in day to day life still seems to be happening despite the death of her young sister.
"has no one told you she's not breathing?
hello I'm your mind giving you someone to talk to
hello"
I think that's her conscience telling her, her sisters dead and its the only one who seems to be actually speaking to her through all the grief.
"if I smile and don't believe
soon I know I'll wake from this dream"
Means she thinks that if she pretends all is ok maybe somehow she'll wake up and realise it was just a dream.
" don't try to fix me I'm not broken
hello I'm the lie living for you so you can hide
don't cry "
Is where they see she's smiling and don't think she's coping or understands so they're trying to "fix" her but really she knows that she's just pretending and this nightmare is real. And I think she is pretending to be ok the way she thinks her parents want to, so that they can hide from the reality because she wants them to stop crying.
" suddenly I know I'm not sleeping
hello I'm still here
all that's left of yesterday "
This is when she realises just how real this all is and that her smiles are not working. Then it's like she's telling her parents that she's still here, a memory of her sister.
This is my thoughts on the song though originally I thought it was about being in a coma and the only one who seems to talk to her is her mind, but now I know what the song is about and ... well yeah that's it, I guess I'm just rambling so why are you still reading this? Jokes. But I hope you like my interpretation on the song. Bye.
