Evanescence: Missing Meaning
Song Released: 2004
Missing Lyrics
But I won't be home again.
Maybe someday you'll look up,
And, barely conscious, you'll say to no one:
"Isn't something missing?"
You won't cry for my absence, I know -
You forgot me long ago.
Am I that...
-
At the beginning of the song. It sounds like she is saying " it's so impossible and in the background it's saying. "you can say it". For me the song interprets.....She is leaving a relatonship with someone who has an addiction....she asking him to forgive her for leaving. After he realizes she is not there...he will ask isn't something missing....isnt she missing him. And then she tells how she feels because he hasnt call her
-
I believe this song Is about a Girl (maybe amy, maybe not) Planning on leaving home And fears that no one will miss her when she is gone.
"maybe some day you'll look up and barely conscious you'll say to no one"
in hope that maybe someday you will realize she isn't here anymore.
It may even possibly be about someone dying and not leaving a mark on the earth and is worried no one will miss her. -
I think that Missing is about Amy making a mistake in her life and even though she's apologised and accepted responsibility, no one would forgive her.
"Please, please forgive me"
self-explanatory
"but i won't be home again"
she feels as if her home wherever she feels safe has been taken away and even though she tries; Amy cannot get it back
"maybe someday you'll look up and barely concious, you'll say to no one"
she's saying maybe someday the people that ignored will make a mistake like Amy did and they'll know how she felt.
"you won't cry for my absence i know
you forgot me long ago"
Amy is speaking to her boyfriend or lover and basically saying that he won't feel sadness when she's not around. second line is pretty obvious.
"am i that uninmportant?
am i so insignificant?"
also self-explanatory.
"isn't something missing?
isnt someone missing me?"
shes speaking about how in her absence shes not missed or thought about.
"even though im the sacrifice
you won't try for me not now"
even though she was the one to make that mistake therefore the "sacrifice" none would stand up for her or listen to her side of her story.
"though i'd die to know you love me
i'm all alone
isn't someone missing me"
she'd give up her life for her b/f to love her again, but she's all alone.
"i know what you do to yourself"
Amy's singing about how she tortures herself with the thoughts of no one caring or loving her.
"and if i bleed, i'll bleed
knowing that you don't care"
if she becomes mentally or physically ill, her lover won't care about it.
"and if i sleep, just to dream of you,
i'll wake without you there."
when she sleeps, she sleeps just to dream of the memories she had of him but when she wakes up he won't be there.
DONE!!! if i missed out some lines its because i already interpreted them or they are are so self-explanatory that there's no point in explaining them
this is just my interpretation and i apologise if its wrong or doesnt agree with your opinion but its what i think the meaning is basically :) :) -
i think thats its more like a piece of her is missing and that shes tryin to fill the void within her heart with singing. like my gradmother said to me before she died "if you ever lose something near and dear to your heart and if it leaves a hole fill the void with good things instead of bad things" and when she died that left a huge void within my heart but my friend is helping me fill the void by trying to be the sister i never had.
-
I think that, from the lyrics, this song is about either a parent abandoning his/her child, a friend leaving you for another friend, and/or a boyfriend/girlfriend leaving you. Either way, i think its about someone leaving you.
I can relate to the lyrics (from my interpretation); my childhood friend and i were very close even though we lived far away. But recently, all i hear from her is how awesome her other friends are and when i go to tell her something exciting, she doesnt show interest.
Plus, no one at school seems to notice me. So "Even though Im the Sacrifice" and "Isn't someone missing me?" really hit home for me -
Okay, so it may be about suicide according to Amy Lee. But the thing about Evanescence songs are that they rarely have a definate meaning inside of the song, like it doesn't come out and say the word "suicide", meaning you can interpret the song however you want to, adjust it to your own situation, and the song actually might help you get through something. That's the beauty of music, it has no definate meaning.
-
I think it's about suicide...
-
i think this site is terrible when it comes to song meanings. they basically let people put what they think the song is about and thats not good. why dont we just get the bibliograpghy of the song, there is one to every song. instead of hearing different answers and opinions. lets get amy lee's answer since she song the song. because who knows if any of you are right

For me, Missing talks about this girl who was so in love with someone and was in a relationship with him, but sadly, things didn't went great, and she broke up with him, maybe to not hurt him, like the song says"Even though I'm the sacrifice,You won't try for me, not now", and she just continu in falling in love with him, but what hurts her the most is watching him moving on in his life, so she ask him "Isn't something missing?" cause she still loves him and cares for him, and she knows he's so over that he's never gonna care for her again.
-
I believe that this song is about someone who loved another person, they didn't love back, and, later on, the girl knows she has to sacrifice herself for a good deed. She is just hoping that someone will remember her and realize that what she did was for the best, even though it hurt her.
-
This song, in my opinion, is about suicide. And although many times it does hint that she/he is in a relationship, that relationship doesn't necessarily mean it is romantic. It could be a friend, a brother or sister, a parent, but ultimately the point of view from this song is that someone is trying to reach out but is ignored.
But, in my opinion songs should be written for the listener to resonate and relate to. If someone feels that this song is about a romantic relationship, so be it. It's how the person views the song, the original meaning is important, but not if someone is going to take it to a deep and personal level. -
I think its about a girl that runs away cause she says at the beginning "I'm sorry but I won't be home again" and no one even notices that shes gone or cares "isn't something missing?"
-
i think this is about a person who lives in a place where no one cares about nor notices her. When she gets hurt or has haunting thoughts, no one would care. She decides to run away one day, telling all whom she leaves behind that she won't be coming back. As she does, she hopes that one day when they're in a great deal of pain, they will finally notice how empty it feels, and how wrong it was to ignore her. But as of now, despite her self-sacrificing, they're not gonna try for her.

Flyleaf speaks of that insatiable part of all of us that we can feel empty inside deep of each our hearts. The missing piece is that part only God's love can fill for us. Lacey speaks of the many examples that we try and share our love for hoping it will complete us, but all things in this world are not pure or enduring enough to end our thirst. The song first speaks of the idolization of the worldly things. The queen reflected under the sun atop the sea's water shines for us, but no matter how much we love our worldly sites, it cannot reflect the love just as well as it reflects the sun. The song then goes onto the daughters of Eve and their sweet and kind actions for Lacey, but no friendship can provide us that love as all friends come and go. The missing represents how nothing satisfies that thirst we have for an unworldly love. Lacey feels this huge hole inside her from the lacking piece that God gives to all of us. Nothing is as completely selflessly loving as that on this Earth, and this is what Flyleaf tries to portray as the MISSING.

Ok...people by reading everyone's interpretations about all of Evanescence's songs people keep saying Amy this and Amy that but think out side of the box! Don't get me wrong I read alot of good interpretations and I hope mine will be good enough so I'm going to crack the song the best way I can!
Ok this song my opinion is basically talking about leaving a hurtful situation while inside a realtionship actually "running away" per-se! Its like your trying to get someone to notice that your gone and your not coming back because of who they've become! They are shinning away your love for them, not giving notice of any significance of who you are, etc . So you start to fell un-noticed and untouched. You feel like you no value in their life...in other words they dont notice you! In the song it can tell that person is hurt and they decided to leave who ever it is! By doing this maybe the person will notice them being gone and fell guilty...in other worlds by being absent in their lover's life the absence will get the lover to notice them. What I'm saying is that this the only way for them to be noticed by the person they is to just go missing!
