Evanescence: My Heart is Broken Meaning
Song Released: 2011
My Heart is Broken Lyrics
I pull away to face the pain.
I close my eyes and drift away.
Over the fear that I will never find
A way to heal my soul.
And I will wander till the end of time
Torn away from...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:This is my most favourite song of the new self-titled album. In my opinion, the song is all about the sadness and pain she's suffering from. Here's my interpretation -
I will endure till the end of time torn away from you.
-She would likely to be in this pain without complaining until she torn away from him(probably his lover)
I pull away to face the pain.
I close my eyes and drift away.
-She want to fell this pain that's why she closes her eyes and slowly moves to some other place.
Over the fear that I will never find
A way to heal my soul.
-She thinks that there's no way to mend her soul and that fear is too hard to handle
My heart is broken
Sweet, sleep my dark angel
Deliver us from sorrow's hold
Or from my hard heart.
-Now she talks about her broken heart as she's already face so much of pain. Here dark angle can be referred to a person or her thoughts as it gives her troubles but still she likes to be in the pain that's why she use "angle" word.
As she says, either this pain deliver herself from sadness or from herself
I can't go on living this way
And I can't go back the way I came
-She says that she can't handle that much suffering any more but still, can't manage to go back in her previous life
Shamed of this fear that I will never find
A way to heal my soul
- Again talks about the shame that she's not able to repair her soul
Change - open your eyes to the light
I've been denying for so long, oh so long
Say goodbye, goodbye
-Now, she wants a break through in her life as she needs to overcome the trouble. Then she finds a light(possibility) for a new and happy life that is denied by her previously but now she says goodbye to this pain
My heart is broken
Release me, I can't hold on
-She can't hold on to this situation anymore and needs a change, need someone to release her from net of fears and pain.
This song shows the mental condition of a person who is suffering from emptiness, hollowness and finds no way to life but still tries for it. -
In my own perspective this song is about a shift in perspective, letting go of ignorance, fear of uncertainty find your true spirit, your true desire being the freedom to be your higher self, letting go of what society expect from you and following your heart and mind with fear of being judged. Leaving all your dented limiting belief behind, not following what everyone says to be true and just finding your own truth and instilling belief that heals rather than kills your mental health, believes that bring a peace of mind.
My heart is broken because I was so blinded that I couldn't see other the goodness of other perspectives, I used to think there was only one true perspective, turning a blind eye to change as I was so comfortable and familiar with the pain I felt then but only caused more stagnation and havoc in the long run.

To me this is a song about loss. Interpret it the way you want to.
It could be the loss of a child,
loss of a lover,
loss of ones self, or
loss of a childhood.
On the CD that I have it sounded like she sang
" my sweet child, that never was" instead of
"sweet sleep, my dark angel" I was surprised when I looked this up online and watched the videos, on the cd i don't hear what is in these. -
Its about being a victim of any type of abuse.
-
It's about her heartache.
-
To me, this song is fairly self-explanatory. It's about someone who's lover did not die, however circumstances separated them("I will wander till the end of time torn away from you")They feel they cannot live without this person ("half alive without you"), they are grieving ("my heart is broken sweet sleep my dark angel deliver us from sorrows hold [over my heart]") they are praying for change but know deep down it will never happen ("change open your eyes to the night I denied all too long [o so long] say goodbye goodbye") & they finally realize they can't keep clinging to this impossibility ("my heart is broken release me I can't hold on").
-
well, what i got from this song and the video is really different,
this song is about letting go of sadness i guess,
Change - open your eyes to the light
I've been denying for so long, oh so long
Say goodbye, goodbye
that means don't be sad like me , and don't deny the happiness, like i did for so long,
My heart is broken
Release me, I can't hold on
and finally she is letting go too -
This really is about the victims of sex trafficking, Amy said so. She said that she has a friend who works in an organization who are doing their best to stop it. Amy then goes and puts herself in the victim's shoes, imaging the hell they go through. I remember listening to the song's commentary on Spotify.

people the lyrics are i will wander till the end of time torn away from you.where did you get endure from? It's wander!Get the lyrics right! And to the other person that wrote"shamed of this fear"that incorrect! The correct lyrics are"chained to the fear that i will never find a way to heal my soul"Did u ever think that maybe she is talking about her soulmate from a past life.It doesn't always have to be a guy she's singing to.It could be a woman she's singing to.Think about it!

Okay I think this song is about that her love is no longer is the same and that her love is killing her soul and that some other person pulled her love away and she cant fix it her dark angel is her pain nomore goodbye sweet sleep die pain telling her love ti change as they was before
-
I think this song is about a girl who's lover died, and she wants to kill herself to be with him. Her best friend won't let her kill herself, and she's telling her friend that everything will be better if she just lets go. She can't hold on anymore.
-
This song is about an incident she mentioned on twitter saying that she came across a new york based organisation who works for people suffering from sex trafficking and abuse
She was really moved to see people suffering from this and wrote this song as she was one of the victim -
It could be about someone who died. And she just can't accept that heor she is really gone. She is trying to move on in the end. "sweet sleep my dark angel" could be like rest in peace with "dark angel" meaning she loved the person that died, but it's causing her a lot of pain.

This song is a pseudo-gospel song. Meaning it makes a barely noticeable reference to God. The first line,'I will endure till the end of time, torn away from you'. This means that pain is what she'll endure for the rest of her life, torn away from God,she'll endure infinite pain. Another line which shows that this song is a pseudo-gospel song 'torn by the fear that I will never find a way to heal my soul' this means that the thought that she will never gain redemption thus save her soul gives her grief. 'Sweet sleep my dark angel' is her way of saying goodbye to her bad or dark side, because she feels because of it,she'll be in danger of perishing. 'Deliver us from sorrows hold, over my heart' this line means that she is cutting herself from her bad side, thus her dark side 'dark angel' is delivering her or saving her from perish or eternal sorrow. This song is not about a lover but is a pseudo-gospel song, like most of Evanescence's songs.
