Fall Out Boy: We Don't Take Hits, We Write Them Meaning
We Don't Take Hits, We Write Them Lyrics
I wont, No. I'm sorry because you're old news
And my life is holding our heads to this gun
You and your new boy think you can come in and keep me off, but you're wrong
I find myself on...
-
"And you lock the house to keep your secret from coming out." To me, this sounds like the narrator is in a relationship with a girl who is cheating on him and thinks he doesn't know. That's the secret she doesn't want spilled.
"I won't, no. I'm sorry because your old news." It sounds like the narrator is more angry than upset and seems desperate to share the wealth. He won't, no he won't keep her secret. He feels bad for her because he's about to call it quits and spread the news.
"And my life is holding our heads to this gun." This "gun" is obviously not literal but more like blackmail, I think. The narrator has valuable information that is "holding their heads at his gun". In other words, holding their reputation at his mercy. He does say "our heads" so it's possible that they have leverage over him, too something about his life.
"You and your new boy think you can come in and keep me off, but you're wrong." His "girlfriend" and her new boyfriend tried so hard to keep this narrator off their trail but ultimately failed.
"I find myself on the street out in front of your house, you can kiss safe thoughts goodbye." Once he opens his mouth, everyone's going to know what's on their minds. "I'm coming up to break your heart. You're sleeping with the light on like you're just dying to be found out." But she's not sleeping at all. She's clearly with her new boy, trying not to make it obvious while the narrator just laughs arrogantly thinking about how they must be so foolish to think they could keep a secret like that. He's hoping she'll be heartbroken when he calls it off and exposes her secrets.
So that's my take on the song :3 hoped it helped
