Flogging Molly: If I Ever Leave This World Alive Meaning
If I Ever Leave This World Alive Lyrics
I'll thank for all the things you did in my life
If I ever leave this world alive
I'll come back down and sit beside your
feet tonight
Wherever I am you'll always be
More than just a memory
If I ever leave...

This song is about him leaving the world in wich he lives in, such as when you leave the crazy life of college and go into the real world. He is leaving his old friends for a new lifestyle maybe getting married. His mutual friends are now in his past, but he will always be there for them because he still loves them.

Dave King says himself this song is about 'friendship' so that rules out any 'man dying/at war speaks to his wife' interpretations.
"leave this world alive" sounds more psychological - THIS world suggests there are more than one, perhaps meaning his is a world apart from others? It's unclear what contrasts his world from others but from what he says he would do if he gets out (which implies he can't do them from where he is) we can sort of figure out what he means:
He'd give thanks, humble himself, own up to past mistakes, relieve 'you' of the anguish he's caused, and serve as a guardian and caregiver. Sounds like two very close friends that have had a falling out or a couple that's broken up, especially when you consider "you'll always be / more than just a memory".
At the end 'she' is introduced which I'm having trouble interpreting but my gut says it's a mutual friend. That's the kind of person that would tell you "I'm alright though you have gone from my life".
I lean towards a breakup because I can see 'you' saying "everything [will] be alright", and 'I' being too proud or heartbroken to take 'you' back as a friend until he puts down the whiskey and stops feeling stuck up and sorry for himself. Or maybe that's just me projecting?
Either way, that's the best I got. -
I believe this is a song beautifully written by a man who is at war and is away from him wife or girlfriend. When he segregates his world from our world, by singing, "if I ever leave THIS world," I think he is comparing his life and atmosphere during battle to the life people have that are not in battle and he saying its possible that he many never leave his world, as in the battlefield, alive. But he reassures his lover back home in the world he wishes to be that everything will be alright because even if he doesn't return home from war he will always be there for her either as a spirit or a memory.

This song tells the story of a man who is dying, or about to die. He tells his wife/girlfriend that "if I ever leave this world alive" by which he actually means when I actually die which is probably soon but he seems to be putting a comical spin on things. Anyway, once he is gone he will still be around to help her out as an angel perhaps but more realistically just as fond memories. He will be with her always in one way or another. He also is convincing her that even though she doesn't believe things will be ok they will be even after he dies. He tells her that there is no need to be sad because everything will be fine and he will always be there to look out for her.
By the end of the song he is gone be she still speaks to him and tells him that he was right and that indeed everything will be alright.
