Foster the People: Helena Beat Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Helena Beat Lyrics
Pulls you down before you know it, it's gone
And you're dead again
I've been places and I won't pretend
Yeah I'd make it out just to fall on my head
Wake up strange and take the walk downstairs
Hit...

I thought it might be about suicide, and the #2 top commenter makes a good case for that. But the vague references to drugs might make the case it's about addiction and trying to overcome that.
Given Montana's public efforts to tackle their meth problem, I wonder if "Helena" in the title is a clue to that. -
It's saying that when you're a kid you can't wait to be an adult... and when you grow up your life basically sucks. My guess is he is poor with an alcohol addiction, and dreams of himself as a kid, wishing he could go back.

I think this is a great song so unlike the rest of the music in the charts...it actually talks about real life. From what I can guess he has had a bad life, hence the pawning part and the tie my hands part could be about drugs and falling because of them. I have no idea about the poison part...I'm guessing alcohol.

i think the song is about drugs . " tie my hands up to the chair so i don't fall that way" so he doesn't fall into the bad ways he used to be.
" took a sip of something poison, but ill hold on tight" hes been that way but hes going to hold on tight not to go back. -
I interpret this song to mean that the singer wishes to be a kid again because his adulthood sucks: He's poor ("Hit the pawn up on the corner and pay for my rent") and an alcoholic ("I took a sip of something poison but I'll hold on tight"). The second verse is pretty much self-explanatory.

I think it's about just having a hard time in life and with an addiction. He says, "I tie my hands up to a chair so I don't fall that way Yeah yeah and I'm alright
I took a sip of something poison but I'll hold on tight." That sounds like he's saying he's falling over drunk from alcohol. In the song he's pawning stuff to pay rent and just telling about how his life is sucking and so he drinks. -

Well personally, I really have no idea... But if I were to put a meaning not to the song ( cause thats just a bunch of mixed up words ) but the music video, I would say that they found this weird way to turn yourself into a kid again, and they want to make a little army to rule the world :)

Ummm. This song is clearly about drug use. Probably heroin. "tie my hands up to a chair so I don't fall that way" is a common way to inject bc you usually pass out from the high. "took a sip of something poison..." pretty self explanatory. Having to pawn belongings to pay rent... The list goes on and on.

its about giant bears coming down from space and treating us like pets

Drugs. I think it sounds like being an addict. To anything really, not just drugs I guess.
