Jewel - Little Sister Meaning

This song is obviously about how drugs have an incredibly large toll over our society. And how drug addiction takes away a person's soul because all they care about is there next high. Everything else is irrelevant to them. Her "little sister" obviously became a victim of this. In a line of the song she says "In a nation whose starve is for salvation but clothing is the closest in approximation" Here I believe she is referring to how materialistic America is and how we're centered around things rather than our own souls. People are constantly acting without thinking and not analyzing their behavior. So they lose sight of who they are...drugs does the same thing to people except it of course takes it to a whole other level of extreme.
