Jewel: Pieces Of You Meaning
Pieces Of You Lyrics
She's an ugly girl, do you want to kick in her face?
She's an ugly girl, she doesn't pose a threat.
She's an ugly girl, does that make you feel safe?
Ugly girl, ugly girl, do you hate...

Many people have an extremely elevated concept of themselves. They believe they are better than their peers: smarter, prettier, worldlier, more enticing, more talented. However, their sub-conscience gnaws at them with the truth that they are as common and as simple as everyone else. So to elevate themselves to their self-evaluated "perfection", to make themselves feel above the rest, they compensate by making others feel small. They are disgusting.

I think the song is about loathing something that you possess... hating your dad cause your just like him.. beng gay and hating homosexuals on that level..

This song most likely confronts issues concerning ugly people, beautiful people, gay people and Jewish people. The song questions why society believes its okay to judge people because of stereotypes. Jewel goes to the extreme by using the words bitch and faggot because they are so familiar in our society. She points out how stupid it is to judge a person because of something you might think they are. All in all, Jewel is just trying to tell us that judging people is not okay and that we all need to work on our own insecurities.

I think this song is about how we as people put other people down because we feel threatened by them or because we're just the same as them. And I guess somehow by calling another person ugly when you feel ugly, it makes you feel better. That's never worked for me but I've seen it happen time and time again with insecure people. Or by calling a person faggot when you're really the gay one, it makes that person feel like the attention is being taken of them and they feel better about themselves.
Basically...this song describes a tyical day in the wonderful land of highschool.
