Grow a Pear Lyrics
And I could tell you took it hard, it was all over you face
Since you're slippin' and flippin'
But here is the sitch
I signed up for a Man, but you are just a bitch
You should Knoooow...

#1 top rated interpretation:It seems she's just singing about a man who isn't her definition of "manly" but the line "I just can't date a dude with a vag" is not only trans phobic, but also mildly internally sexist, as if saying that, in this case, wanting an emotional connection rather than just sex is inherently feminine and automatically bad, but also perpetuating this idea that men only want sex.
All in all, I just think it is a bad lyric in an otherwise decent song -

#2 top rated interpretation:Y'all saying she's talking about a man who lacks manliness and/or wants to have an emotional connection with her while she's just looking for a hook-up, meanwhile when I first heard this song I thought she was talking about a transgender man.
Like she wanted sex and good-time from this dude but she finds out he's transgender?? Idfk. -

#3 top rated interpretation:She wants to have sex with the guy, but he's looking for an actual relationship. So she says he needs to grow some balls and have sex with her instead of looking for a relationship.

I low key love this song..I don’t understand why you are all sensitive to this thinking that she is offending the transgender community.. she was simply just making a song about how she doesn’t want to have a deep relationship and her just wanted to hook up but then slightly changes her mind when she catches feelings..She soon after realizes that he wines and acts like a mean girl so much of the time…

I’m a trans man and I like this song lmao. She never meant to be sexist or transphobic. She was just sick of a stupid dude who whined all the time.

This website says that it not about a transman, she just doesn't like a man that's sensitive and emotional. So she's saying for him to grow a pear if he wants her to stay. It explains it more into details in the article.
I think it's sad that ppl think it's about a transman. There's her opinion on the LGBTQ Community in the article. -
This song has a good beat, but horrible lyrics. Im a trans male and found the lyrics to be very transphobic. Im not sure if this was Kesha's meaning, but either way its not a good one. This song is going to end up with either a sexist meaning or a transphobic meaning. Bad song.
-
Ya’ll are saying that she isnt being sexist or transphobic while saying that she’s saying ‘the guy needs to man up’, that is sexist love. Men cry/whine too. I think the lyrics are bad, I mean the beat and shit is ok but the lyrics are just nah. She also does sound like she’s being transphobic but I doubt that’s the case. Coming from a transman
-
The guy in the song is being a pussy and Kesga wants him to start acting like a man. No, she isn't being transphobic or sexist she just wants the guy to grow up and act like a man. - Coming from a transmasc. (Cis people really need to stop talking about what's transphobic and not)
-
The guy in the song is being a pussy and kesha wants him to not act like a huge fucking pussy no she isnt being transphobic or sexist she just wants the guy to be less of a pussy and this is coming from a bi girl (any pronouns)
-
It's clearly about how she is trans phobic. She doesnt want to date a man with a vagina, rather one with a penis.
-
It's about how she's transphobic and can't date a dude with a vagina since she wants a guy with a penis. A pair is a pair of nuts that hang in the ballsack. Jesus fucking christ grow up
-
It's without a doubt about sex. She wants him to grow some balls and share a good time
Perhaps the pear growth symbolizes the ball growth with their meaning. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
Er...if you're a kid, stay away!
For the rest, it is VERY obviously about her man's er..."lack of manliness" and
inability to offer her enjoyable sex. (Hence, grow a pear...and I think you know what a pear is (In the perverted Kesha metaphor ;).
She wants him to man up!
Hmm...I have WAYY too much time on my hands I see after writing this. Wink!
Cheers! -
She's fed up of clingy men, sensitive men, she just wants SEX and a GOOD time!
-
A man doesn't have any balls.
-
She wants a man that can be emotionally detached, and that's what she loves. She doesn't want a talker
