I think this song is about a guy ( or girl ) who met someone but never wanted to give love a try , they just fooled around but now their grown up and their looking back at this and wishing they did. Their saying I would have fallen in love , I should've tried, if I knew then.

I think this song is about liking someone and being with them but not exactly falling in love with them, you were pretty much in the relationship but not fully invested and he messed up, how that he looks back on it he sees all the mistakes me mad and that he actually did care about her more than he thought, he wishes he could have actually fallen in love and give it a chance.
