Lady Antebellum: American Honey Meaning
Song Released: 2010
American Honey Lyrics
Where the church bells ring
And strong love grows
She grew up good
She grew up slow
Like American honey
Steady as a preacher
Free as a weed
Couldn't wait to get going
But wasn't quite ready to...

A young, innocent small-town girl who had a slow, simple life. Life was kind to her, and she cherished it; yet, something in her also wanted to go out and see the world outside of her comfort zone. Years go by and “real life” finally happened to her. It was during such times when she misses her innocent, blissful days the most, only resorting to reminiscing the past and wishing she can go back and be that young and innocent small-town girl that she once was; at least, once more because there was “nothing sweeter than summertime” and the golden memories she can now only hold near and dear to her heart.
Anyone can relate to such a message when you were once innocent and blissful, not caring about and carrying the world’s problems. All of a sudden, life happens and you have seen and known more than you wanted, and you can only wish you can still find that child in you to restore what once was a beautiful world you knew. -
Nostalgic thoughts when life is passing and you arranged the pieces of a life that many assessed as teaching moments. It may not be about you but you think of the people you dearly love. And wished them well now.

I think it's about a girl yearning to be free. To experience a life she never quite known. She leaves the life she knew to become something else that is not quite her. Later on in life, she regrets that decision and wants to get back to the girl she used to be. The person deep inside of her who lay dormant for years.
-
I feel that this is about a girl who lived in a small town. She tried to grow up fast but, she never was ready to leave. She had common sense and a wild vibe. Eventually, she grows. And, she wants to go back to an innocent time. There is something calling her back. She wants to go back in time.

This song is about how the singer wishes she were a kid again when everything was so simple. It describes her childhood in the small town/country/farm and how the world is so crazy she wishes she could go back.
