Whatever It Takes Lyrics

No comments? Huh.
Whatever It Takes by Lifehouse
A strangled smile fell from your face
It kills me that I hurt you this way
The worst part is that I didn't even know
Now there's a million reasons for you to go
But if you can find a reason to stay
I think he hurt her a lot when he strangled her & torched her. He created a huge amount of pain in her life which means he brought her DOWN. He purposely caused her to visit frightening, disgusting & grave parts of her heart and psyche. He is saying that he is sorry for his rotten actions but he wants her to stay with him.
I'll do whatever it takes
To turn this around
I know what's at stake
I know that I've let you down
And if you give me a chance
Believe that I can change
I'll keep us together whatever it takes
He is saying that he will "turn this around" and do "whatever it takes" which means he will put forth great effort to create their destiny. He is admitting that he "let her down". Maybe she needed help and support getting on her feet and he just allowed her to fall OR maybe he pushed her to the ground and scraped her face in the gravel. We don't know for sure. Gravity was responsible for some of it. Gravity is a conundrum & we can better prepare for it. He believes that he can change his selfish ways and do what is necessary to keep them together. Perhaps he intends upon using the laws of attraction & force in their favour...
She said "If we're gonna make this work
You gotta let me inside even though it hurts
Don't hide the broken parts that I need to see"
She said "Like it or not it's the way it's gotta be
You gotta love yourself if you can ever love me"
He never talks to her. He is a pent up, bottled up tightwad with his feelings. She is urging him to please, please pour them out. She is all ears & heart and feeling very spongey. She loves him & she thinks he is an incredibly spectacular person. She wants him to be honest with her about his feelings. He was obviously hurting inside if he strangled her smile. She intends upon helping him and alleviating his pain.
I'll do whatever it takes
To turn this around
I know what's at stake
I know that I've let you down
And if you give me a chance
And give me a break
I'll keep us together, I know you deserve much better
He is telling her that he will impose his will on their life together. He knows she deserves kinder treatment than she has received. He is telling her to give them a chance. He will do what he can to keep them together. He will try to speak to her.
But remember the time I told you the way that I felt
That I'd be lost without you and never find myself
Let's hold onto each other above everything else
Start over, start over
Previously, he told her the way that he felt by his eyes, smiles, gestures & kindnesses. He did adorable things for her all of the time. Although he was shy with her about speaking his sincere feelings, he revealed his love to her by his actions. She knew how he felt from the beginning and she was drawn to him with magnetudinal force. He is telling her that they should NOT allow each other to fall anymore NOR should they smash each other's faces into the ground. They need to hold onto each other and help each other stand up and/or lie down next to each other. They need to start over, fresh, new like Jorma Kaukonen's gorgeous "Genesis".
I'll do whatever it takes
To turn this around
I know what's at stake
I know I've let you down
And if you give me a chance
and believe that I can change
I'll keep us together whatever it takes
We cannot completely plan the future, but we can use our will to prepare ourselves for it. We can attempt to love our trueselves & soultorchers more & better. And, "There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can circumvent or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul." Ella Wheeler Wilcox. :=)
That is the meaning of Whatever It Takes.
