Linkin Park: Numb Meaning
Song Released: 2003
Covered By: Dead By April (2017)
Numb Lyrics
Feeling so faithless lost under the surface
Don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I...
-
I interpret it as slipping into depression day by day, watching your life go by. I see it like this because it really feels like numbness to have this sort of major depression in your life.
-
I feel that this song is about how one feels that they are not living up to someone else's expectations, especially parents. There are parents that would try to relive their childhoods through their children.

I'm 51 years old, I got divorced about 12-13 years ago. All I ever did was work my ass off for my family, because that was what i thought would make my wife, and my kids happy! How wrong can you be, that's no way to live, but in my mind, I thought thats what my wife wanted, and I didnt care about anything else. This song really resonated with me, cos it was around at about the same time. Since I got older and have a fantastic relationship with my grown up daughter, who loves Rock, and R'n B, and all types of music, same as me, ffs, didnt want to ramble!!! Anyway, Love the loud Guitars, makes me feel like I can just shout Fuck you to the world!! RIP Chester, gone too soon!

Look guys. Your final answer has arrived.
This song is CLEARLY about god... he directs everybodys path..the choices you make down this path is on you.. hes become so numb. He cant feel god there.. hes tired of being what he wants him to be.. hes lost under.. feeling the pressure of walking in his shoes.. god in the flesh was persecuted for the things he did.. when all he did was love and forgive and wants you to do the same.. which is hard for mankind it seems.. they are singing in a CHURCH setting down by the alter getting everything off their chest.. His faith in humanity is just gone! The woman had separate stories. It wasn't just her mom looking down on her.. she was painting the church. At the end she starts destroying the painting. Frustration style. She runs into the church. She knows its the only place she knows she can run.. what she does in there.. no one knows.. Your welcome -
Sounds like a person dealing with a narcissistic parent.

The song , too me, is about drug addiction! Its metaphorical and i link the two as i am a drug addict in recovery and related MOST lyrics to my situation. In saying all that i do suffer from anxiety and depression, those two illnesses being relatable in the lyrics. I can say that i became the drugs i used, eventually couldnt feel their effects atall, leading me to want to become myself again!

I think song "numb" about the person who loves someone and didn't loved back by him/her he tried to change him/herself for improving him/her but everytimes he fails then he/she quit improving coz he felt so miserable and lonely.... In the end /sheHe tells his love one that "he/she knows and realized that one day u were like me... And someone disappointed u... Like u r doing me.. That's it..

about someone being forced to be like everyone else but doesn't want to be 'tired of being what you want me to be'.

I think the song "Numb" can be interpreted in many different ways. Probably the most popular is a father and son's relationship. I do agree with that, peer pressure at school etc. However I believe it can it also represent a single person. What if somebody was fighting against their self, having a war in their mind. Like PTSD, OCD etc. They don't know what to do and just want to act like a normal human being. Their being smothered by the symptoms and afraid one day they'll lose control. Unable to come back from an anxiety attack or stop their compulsions. They want to be more like themselves and less like the mind.

I believe it about someone who is not happy with the person they recently became, because they want to be the person someone in their life that they deeply car for (like a friend, girlfriend, family, etc)wants them to be. They don't want to let that person down but wants to be them self and the person they had been before and is tired of the persons Expectations and wants to be them self, but doesn't want that person either simply leave them or not care for them (probably not the best but I am only 14)

The song "Numb" is about a person who wants to be like everyone else, but can't, and is judged by people because of it. They are sick and tired of being judged and this song is what they are saying to everyone.

No matter about whom this song is - about a child and parents, about lovers, about a fan and an idol - I think it perfectly describes this feeling... I've experienced it myself under pressure - feeling restricted, trying to fulfill somebody's expectations - it brings apathy. Numb! Empty and indifferent, unhappy.
But I usu regard Numb as a lovesong, in which an idealistic girl tries to change her boy... it's quite common, ain't it? -
To me, this song is talking about somebody who lost someone. The person they lost had a great influence on his/her life. When that person had passed it made them realized that they were becoming more like that person, instead of themselves. They were changing into someone they didn't want all because of that person. This girl/boy doesn't like what's happening to them, but at the same time they just want that person back.
