#1 top rated interpretation:i think of god when i hear this because he always gives me another chance and he provides for me and helped me through my battles and problems. god loves you never forget that. a scripture from the bible says that if you show affection to god he will do the same and if you don't god will still love you but will not show as much affection. stay close to god cause when you have no one to turn to he will be there. even if you cant see him or touch him he hears you and talks to you in ways you don't realize.

Interpretations may veries to every single lisenter but, I think the song is about God. He is the truth light and above all Forgiveness and that God loves me for who I was,as in the lyrics.

I happened to hear this song randomly. I listened to half of it on Spotify. recently after almost 7 months, I'm listening to this again. Only this time did I get a clearer picture of this song in my mind.
It is about Someone who is like a guardian angel in your life. Your guard, or The one who you turn to when all the odds are against you and you feel like there's no hope for you. The lines, "When my world is falling apart when there's no light to break up the dark; that's when I... Look at you"; I can connect them to a recent breakdown phase of my life...I felt Everything was going against me and became too afraid of people, of what all could go wrong, of a lot or many many things.
Every time I cried there was nobody to console me but then there was this never-failing source of light that kept me safe through all those battles and still guides me always. God used to talk to me when I lent him my ears. That divine power lead me amidst all the darkness I fell into, to his path. Thank You God, for everything...It's always the darkest before the dawn..."And I know, I'm not alone..."

I remember a time in my life when I was Depressed. I felt like nobody understood me and that I was useless. But that all changed when my wonderful cousin encouraged me to be strong and to be fearless.
I had a nickname that this one girl used to call me and it was called "The Broken Girl". I hated that, she made me feel like I was broken and actually I was but I didn't want to admit it.
My friends mom didn't like me either, she said and I quote it "why do you want to be friends with someone who thinks about suicide all the time". That's when I really broke down. All what I'm trying to say is, if there is someone in your life who is treating you bad let them go before you become depressed and feel like your nothing, because your everything. -
It reminds me of my cousin. He helped me through a lot in my life and I thank him everyday, because if it weren't for him I wouldn't be writing this right now.
He was the boy that saved my life.

Yeah, most of people says that the song is about "DEVOTION TO GOD". I am convinced that it's about thanking God, that without HIM life is nothing. The moment we look at above, we remember that God really loves us, that HE is our inspiration and HE is our everything

When I write this song to my boyfriend George he reminded me of my grandpa. But when I looked at the video and the piano I wanted do the same thing as Miley did. Then when I walked in the door joe wasn’t there but I found nick he’s so sweet and nice boy. But when Kevin walked in he wanted to play the piano and he turned around and cooked us dinner, then we wrote music with John shanks, but it’s wonderful to make this movie.

I feel like it is about, as the song states, everything is falling apart and the one person you look to. An influential figure in your life, like a parent or quardian, or even your best/ most trusted friend.

I think it's left to interpretation. You see it how it fits your life. I believe it could be about that one TRUE person in your life, it most certainly could be about God, but I can also see it as being something a son or daughter would say to a parent. Unconditional love comes from God, true friends, a husband or wife and most cases, your loving parents.
Whatever she meant it to be about it spoke to me the first I heard it, it made me think of God, it made me think of how much I love and cherish my mom and also the love of my life. All have lifted me thru rough times. -
It means she looks to God. After all He is always there and will always be there for us to turn to no matter the circumstance. He will love us forever. Even when forever doesn't exist. :)

When I hear this song I think of God. I was born again and saved by the grace of God at 11. I had a lot of rough times and God made the difficulties easier for me. When my world is falling apart and I can't find my home, God is the direction I look. I don't look anywhere but him.
