Muse: The 2nd Law: Unsustainable Meaning
The 2nd Law: Unsustainable Lyrics
The availability of the remaining energy decreases
In all energy exchanges if no energy enters or leaves an isolated system
The entropy of that system increases
Energy continuously...

#1 top rated interpretation:It's talking about the 2nd law of thermodynamics, which is basically that when something uses energy, some of that energy cannot be used again. For example: If you plug in a toaster, electrical energy gets converted into heat energy. You can't convert that heat energy back to electrical energy,so it's lost.
P.S. I'm not 100% sure about this so don't criticize me I'm only 11. -
kinda a bad song isnt it i kinda hate it and the msuic is so weird and dubstep could be better than this honestly i wish it didnt exist i really dont like it

the whole song's basically about how humanity cannot beat entropy (the impossibility to access energy) no matter how hard we try, due to the universe expanding, and when it expands enough and everything is spread out, it will collapse on itself, all humanity is doing is speeding up our own destruction, and we can't stop that, but we're going to run out of energy, which means we can't progress, hence "a species set on endless growth is unsustainable".

Entropy = Impossible to access energy.
background: The universe is expanding because energy is constantly being converted from a dense state to an expanded state. This is not only present on earth, look at a star. It's breaking down energy much faster than any planet. Inevitably the universe will stop expanding and the direction of entropy will invert collapsing the universe. The cycle will then begin again with the big bang.
In context of the album they are referring to the human race and that it cannot beat entropy. We are speeding up our own destruction. Our technology and method of surviving (digestion, electricity generation etc...) requires forward moving entropy (solid matter to entropy). The point of this is that we are all going to die, there is no avoiding it. -

The lyrics of the song means that through the energy natural plants and animals ect and also the gas/oil/radio ect used comes from the energy that earth creates through wind, rain, lightning, air (cycles that earth creates to exist).
everything uses up power, its like staying in an airtight room and you try and breathe, you use all the air and thats it, its gone, you die... so thats exactly what the song means
its a warning that oil and gas should be left buried and not used.
