Muse: MK Ultra Meaning
MK Ultra Lyrics
Coercive notions re-evolve
A universe is trapped inside a tear
It resonates the core
Creates unnatural laws
Replaces love and happiness with fear
How much deception can you take
How many lies will you create
How much...
-
MK Ultra exists nowadays!
-
When they say "your mind becomes a wall." its referring to the dissociation that an mk ultra slave forms to deal with the emotional, physical, and mental trauma they are subjected to, thus mentally removing themselves from the sitiuation and submitting to the mind kontrolle.
-
MK-ULTRA was a covert and illegal CIA operation in the 50s and 60s, exposed in the mid-70s. The CIA was subjecting people to all sorts of negative stimuli, such as drugs, torture, etc. to try to basically break their mind and gain control. Once you realize that the lyrics becomes clear, with lines such as-
"How much deception can you take
How many lies will you create
How much longer until you break
You mind's about to fall"
-referring to the experiments themselves. Also, the line "All of history deleted with one stroke" could be about the subjects losing their memory, or about how in an attempt to cover up MK Ultra, the then-director of the CIA had all of the files destroyed. -
Most know that The Resistance is based off of George Orwell's '1984', which explains many of the songs. Also, MKULTRA was a CIA human mind control and interrogation experiment that went on from the 50s and 60s, which fits perfectly with the general theme, for those who have read 1984 (I highly recommend it).
The wavelength gently grows
(By this, I believe it means the 'wavelength' between the couple's minds {Winston and Julia}, and them beginning to understand each other and how they feel about things)
Coercive notions re-evolve
(What they think about the thing holding them down, which is Big Brother, in this case)
A universe is trapped inside a tear
(This may be because it sounds nice, though perhaps its that when they're together, it's their own little world, but there's sorrow that they can never be 'together' due to the laws of society)
It resonates the core
(It swells in the heart)
Creates unnatural laws
(The pair feel as though the laws put forth by Big Brother are crimes against human nature)
Replaces love and happiness with fear
(Human enjoyment is discouraged, and by seeing each other, Winston and Julia threaten their own lives)
How much deception can you take?
(A climactic part of 1984 is the capture of Winston and Julia by O'Brein, someone they thought they could trust)
How many lies will you create?
(Winston is told that Julia has betrayed him, which he refuses to believe, and tries to cover for her in his own way)
How much longer until you break?
(They're basically tormenting the guy, literally)
Your mind's about to fall
(Winston feels as though he can't take this anymore)
And they are breaking through,
They are breaking through,
Now we're falling,
We are losing control
(The enemy is starting to penetrate their will, and they're digging a bigger hole for themselves that they're going to 'fall' into...it's animalistic hysteria)
Invisible to all,
The mind becomes a wall.
All of history deleted with one stroke
(Winston keeps trying to put up defenses and turn the tables...also, his occupation was to erase any proof that the government of Oceania was wrong in their current movement, thus deleting history)
How much deception can you take?
How many lies will you create?
How much longer until you break?
Your mind's about to fall
(Once again, the threat of defeat)
And they are breaking through,
They are breaking through,
Now we're falling,
We are losing control
(Aaaaand...all is lost.) -
Mk Ultra was a conspiracy theory that was proven true about the U.S. CIA or something like that in the 60's about forcing mind control and other things of the nature
