My Chemical Romance: Cancer Meaning
Cancer Lyrics
If you could, get me a drink of water
'Cause my lips are chapped and faded.
Call my Aunt Marie.
Help her gather all my things
And bury me in all my favorite colors.
My sisters and my brothers.
Still, I will not kiss you.
'Cause...

Cancer is about the paitent dying of cancer but I really think that it makes a much bigger impact than intended. when I found out my mom had cancer I had no idea what it was. by now cancer has been in my family 3 other times, one of which killed my grandpa. "I'm just soggy from the chemo" is such an emotional line. MCR really knows how to make such an ugly evil disease keep its horrid reputation while adding such true emotion.
-
The song cancer is about the patient who is dying in a hospital bed with cancer. This is the most emotional track on the album in my opinion. It makes me really scared because cancer runs in my family. whenever I listen to this song I feel like going out and doing something to help. I can't even begin to imagine what cancer victims and survivors went through and are going through now. MCR is the best because they know how to sing about something without disgracing it or ruining its horrific results.
-
I not quit sure but if I had to guess, I would say it was the patients last will and he says he wants to be buried and black and is depressed because of all the things he missed in life

This song haunts me!
I can tell you my interpretation of it. My 29 year old brother was diagnosed with stomach cancer 4 months ago. He had 80% of his stomach removed and is currently going through his third round of Chemo with three more left. We stumbled upon this song quite by accident. Both my brother and I are MCR fans and after purchasing the Black parade were quite surprised by this beautiful song. I cannot listen to it without completely breaking down. It is hauntingly beautiful but hits a little to close to home!

Well the name says it all but if you want more I'll explain right now....Okay well the band is telling a sort of story from the cancer patients point of view. They are saying that they know that death will take them but they aren't afraid. They are telling all the people that the patient has come to know that he is going and that he loves them. The patient is telling his family and friends what he wants to happen when they bury him. It's a hard point of view to write but I think My Chemical Romance did a great job.

I'm a huge my chemical romance fan!
I've actually met them at 1 of their concerts!
i asked them about why they wrote this song as its my fav!
he lost 1 of his best friends to cancer and he wanted 2 write a song 4 his friends girlfriend!
it was partly for himself as well as it was hard 4 his friend to leave him!
and I know how he feels because both my parents died of cancer.
i totally understand how he's feeling.
missing the family 4ever.
yours sadly

This is about a guy w/ cancer an d the hardest part is leaving her. very simple song actually

I believe this song is about the "patient" dying from cancer but it has an underlying meaning which is the drugs and alcohol Gerard battled with being just like cancer, it took over his body and he had no control, he felt like it was killing him and he could see the devastating effects it had on his loved ones.
-
Such a great song. Its kinda self-explanitory. Its about going through cancer. Gerard said that "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" was more about being angry and violence. But in the BLack Parade, they want you to carry on through such hardships such as losing a loved one to cancer.
-
well I don't think its a metaphor. I think you guys are looking into it too much. Gerard even said it's about going through cancer. It was written for his grandmother.
-
It shows what some on ewith cancer is going through, It can help people who are going through cancer.
When my mum was diagonsed with cancer, I showed her the song, and she explained to me that's ow she felt, and when she dies she doesn't want to leeave us behind.
This song has helped me through all thesse hard time, and when my mum doies die, she wants every one to kown how she feels through a song!!! this song!!

I think many of you have a valid point talking about if it is truly metaphorical or not (cancer: a disease or a new way of saying lifestyle?). I personally believe it is about the disease, though many believe it is from the patients point of view. I think it is from the mourners point of view. When my auntie died of cancer, I wanted to be her, so this song helped me. I believe that the part "know that I will never marry" is a peak of emotion in this song because it is lets say, Gerard talking about a girlfriend he lost to cancer (just an example, non ficiton, never happened) and he is talking about her, and he is trying to explain that before she died he wanted to marry her and the grief is coming out as regret. Also, I am writing this because I have a report on music, about a popular song in todays times that has an actual message hidden within it. This totally has a message!

I'm a person who has a cancer...and I have done what this song tells...I said goodbye to him...it's so sad when you have to leave your boyfriend...and the hardest part is because of my illness and not because of me....I still loves him....now on mtv there's "how to save a life" by The Fray....Daniele non ti dimenticherò mai...I will never forget you, you will always be my Starlight...
-
It's about the patient dying of cancer & his final days
-
LOTMS: Well SORRY if that interpretation was "DUMB" but I think that the song is pretty straightforward. I didn't think that I needed to explain a song as simple as that. And how is my opinion interesting? Its my opinion and many others as well.
