My Chemical Romance: Cancer Meaning
Cancer Lyrics
If you could, get me a drink of water
'Cause my lips are chapped and faded.
Call my Aunt Marie.
Help her gather all my things
And bury me in all my favorite colors.
My sisters and my brothers.
Still, I will not kiss you.
'Cause...

how do you think its PARTLY about the patient??
its completely about him leaving the world and the one he loves!!!!obvious -
its because his dad dies of cancer and its a tribute to him n same with black parade if you listen to most of the songs way has dedicated them to sum1 dear to him or someone in the group......wahooooo to c them in march lalalalala <3 emo love
-
Well first of all, I want to say that this song is AMAZING! I think Gerard sings it beautifully. Anyhow, this song obviously is of cancer from The Patient's point of view.
-
Gerard says that this song is actually about Cancer but more about depression than anything else.Feeling like there's nowhere else to turn but to death. The patient feels So guilty about his plans to kill himself instead of the cancer killing him that 'I will not kiss you'(His Family)
but life means nothing to him except his family 'the hardest part of this is leaving you. -
When I watched the live video of this song, Gerard looked like he was going to cry, and then ray hugged him. I think this could be about someone in Gerard and Mikey's family that died of cancer. I know I was devastated when I found out about my uncle David when he died. I almost lost my grandpa Lentz to it also. I loved my uncle so much. I even wrote a poem about it. I couldn't imagine losing my grandpa.
-
It clearly states that it's about a patient going through cancer slowly and knowing things he will never do in his life. [[I will not ever marry]] ect. And that he has to know that he will never see his loved one again and it was hard saying goodbye to you [[cuase the hardest part of this is leaving you]] People, this is an extremely intense song packed with so much feeling and emotions. In one of Mcr's interviews I saw, Gerard and the band explained that it was so hard to sing the song, alone talk about it, they fear of it and gets them sad with the picture Gerard paints when he sings it. It's a really great song but so powerful in lyrics and emotion.

its about his grandma (Helena) and how she died and how he felt and feels about her death.
-
I listen to the song every night, grieving about how the pain would tear you apart and how depressed I would be. This is the most emotional song, about someone dying of chemo cancer and knowing that he's going to die at any time. But you have to move on! Thats what life is for to live it and love it! My Chemical Romance rocks!

wow the one above ME is so dumb! that was from an ACTUAL THING THAT GERARD SAID! ok, yeah, omg, wow. words... This song is obviously taken a lot of different ways, and yeah...
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

wow the one before me is dum....

i completely agree with this one because in a MCR recent aol sessions Gerard said that this song obviously deals with cancer but he said that's not all, it goes further than that
"This song is about a cancer patient but it has meaning then that "know that I will never marry" is about getting hurt repeatedley in relationships. "baby I'm just soggy from the chemo" the patient is tired and depressed he feels like walking up to the door of death and beg him to take him. "the hardest part of this is leaving you" probably telling his mom, girlfriend, or sibling that he doesn't want to go but he has no choice. Remeber cancer is not only a disease it can also be depression, or grief, or anything else that can consume your entire life style." -

You people can't take this so literally. On AOL sessions, Gerard said that this song isn't meant to be taken literally. So as I see it, cancer is a metaphore for your bad habits and things you have to let go of; dying is a metaphore for letting go of those things. It's not about the medical condition, although I can imagine that it makes sense that way also.
