I agree with you, I think that's what it means in the whole killjoy story, but in real life, i think it's just talking about being unsure of yourself. it could be in politics or anything else. like being afraid to agree with someone you consider to be an enemy

I think this song is about trying to defeat their enemies, but are thinking that they are the bad guys instead. That's my prediction.
