My Chemical Romance: House of Wolves Meaning
House of Wolves Lyrics
Because I got enough to spare
And I'll be granting your permission
'Cause you haven't got a prayer
Well, I said hey hey hallelujah
I'ma come on sing the praise
So let the spirit come on through ya
We...
-
I always thought this song was about a strip club. House of Wolves sounds like a good name for a strip club.
-
I think the song is about the patient before he's going to die and he never really cared much about his faith until now and he's worried about going to hell because he was a bad person "S-I-N I S-I-N" Now he wants to pay more attention and start praying and believing so he doesn't go to hell
"Well I said hey, hey hallelujah,
I'm gonna come on sing the praise."
He's saying he thinks he's going to hell in the line "Well, I think I'm gonna burn in hell" and in "Everybody burn the house right down" he's saying well fuck it I'm going to hell anyway lets have fun
"And say, ha
What I wanna say
Tell me I'm an angel,
Take this to my grave.
Tell me I'm a bad man,
Kick me like a stray. "
I guess in that line he's saying he'll get what he deserves
"You play ring around the ambulance,
Well like you never gave a care. "
I guess he's hurting people or just found out he's sick and in the ambulance
"And I said, ashes to ashes, we all fall down,
I wanna hear you sing the praise, "
I think he's talking to other people saying life ends at some point believe in your faith and be a good person
"You better run like the devil,
'Cause they're never gonna leave you alone! "
I think he's talking about running from the police
"You better hide up in the alley,
'Cause they're never gonna find you a home! "
Hiding from police because if you pay bills and what not they'll find you
"And as the blood runs down the walls,
You see me creepin' up these halls. "
I guess the patient was a murderer...
"I've been a bad motherfucker
Tell your sister I'm another
Go! Go! Go! "
I guess he's at a persons house and going to kill someone and the guy he's going to kill tells the sister to hide or get out the house -
Someone mentioned religion being a part of the song. I personally thought the Gerard was merely making fun at religion considering he IS talking about going to hell, or at least the speaker in the song is.

It seems like the house of wolves is based off of lord of the flies. He even talks about the choir boys.
-
I think that it's about church and who everyone there thinks there better than everyone else when it says "tell me I'm a bad man kick me like a stray" it means that if you don't conform to their beliefs in somewhat of a church then they kick you out
-
It's about Frank Iero fighting with his pa, he said so in a radio interview. Case closed.
-
Although this might be an incomprehensible interpretation, I think that the patient is thinking about how people hate him because he is an atheist, if you notice that he talks about spirit and religion a lot with angels and devils, in which he would look at all the people who think he is a bad man because he is an atheist and that he's starting to believe in something, noticing that he's been sinning and making fun of the senseless religious guys.
DON'T BITCH AT ATHEISTS Kai0o0 -
Hey, just splitting hairs here, but one of the great things about a song with real meaning is that you can interpret it any way you want.
Just a random thought: maybe it's about what happened in Waco, Texas, in 1993, with that cult.
"Everybody burn the house right down"
might be a clue about the siege at the cult's base, which killed 82 people.
Obviously that Koresh guy was messed up, and must have some remorse for some of the weird things his church did, shown in this song: "Well I think I'm gonna burn in hell/I know a thing about contrition cuz' I got enough to spare".
Plus, this song reflects on religion quite a bit:
"C'mon sing the praise/let the spirit come on through ya"
although Koresh ha remorse about stuff he did, he convinced himself otherwise:
"We got innocence for days/it's a compliment I swear/tell me I'm an angel/take this to my grave"
David Koresh's ways would never be accepted:
"You better run like the devil cuz' they never gonna leave you alone/you better hide up in the alley cuz' they never gonna find you a home"
But it's only a thought. The song probably fits in with the story of the album, like you said.
Just a suggestion. -
I agree with "emo guy" this is most likely about the patient wondering if he'll go to hell because he lived a life of sin

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

You are one of the most moronic people I've ever heard. Don't act like "we can't have fun" because we have the response. It's the fact that it didn't sound like a joke, and some people actually take their music seriously.
If great great great music is a joke to you, go listen to Avril Lavigne. THERE'S something to laugh at. Because I honestly don't find anything funny about a guy with cancer who thinks he's going to hell.
Maybe I just have something up my ass.
((By the way-It is about the patient thinking, shit, I'm going to hell. The band got the name from this Looney Toon episode where this wolf dies and goes to this jazz house. The House Of Wolves. Which is supposed to be hell to the creater of LT? Lol?))

Gerard said that this was about The Patient and him not knowing for sure if he was going to hell or not. He's pretty sure he is but is trying to keep himself innocent. "Well, I think I'm gonna burn in hell..."
"Tell me I'm an angel, take this to my grave." "We've got innocence for days!" -
With all that Gerard and the guys have stated about the making of this album, or DURING the making of it, I find this and several other songs on this album to be very revealing.
The thought that this album is all about "the patient" is very romantic, isn't it? And it's obviously working for them. But the truth is, most of these songs are much more personal and closer to them than you may can imagine.
Several major incidents happened during the time of preparing and making this piece of work (their best so far). Do you honestly believe they couldn't bring those things with them into these songs?
These incidents could be seen as terminal conditions, or definitely, inevitable conclusions to certain things in their lives. There is a strong tone of reluctant acceptance throught this album.
Think about what they have talked about in some of the interviews they've given and then you'll start seeing these songs totally opposite of what you were originally told to see them as.
