My Chemical Romance: Mama Meaning
Mama Lyrics
Mama, we all go to hell
I'm writing this letter and wishing you well
Mama, we all go to hell
Oh well now
Mama, we're all gonna die
Mama, we're all gonna die
Stop asking me questions
I'd hate to see you cry
Mama,...
-
i think mama we all go to hell means the war it's like hell bombs guns u know and the mom dont want to loose his son well because she loves him.If someone is in war maybe most of them r gonna die and the mom is just worried thats all she dosnt hate his son 4 real she loves him and wish 4 a girl cause most girls wont do what boys do there different
P.S im 11 i might be wrong -
my intepretaion of this song(proberly wrong) is this about a family in the italian mafia. The mother in the family doesnt want her sons to go into the mafia but they have already had much 2 much involved with it to stop
-
I also think its the past memories of the patient. his mother never wants him to go to war, but he has no fear to it and he wants to serve the country by saying 'mama we all go to hell' and 'were all gonna die', but it may be that he hates the war but tries to calm his mother down too...
-
I always thought the album's concept was a patient dying of cancer, and this was him writing a letter to his mother, saying how he was going to die.
-
Without doubt, I think that 'Mama' here is actually America, who is sending young people to war...
Isn't it just sweet? ;) -
Many people think about that this is a very dirty and bad song. They think that this is about hell, but the truth is it's about war and death. and family problems. wth? My Chemical Romance is epic, this is classic rock/rock opera, they are legends.

You know, this song is kinda covered up, the was it is written makes it sound as though its about war, (Which it is) but I think there is more meaning behind it. Where it says "We'll never let you go, and when we go dont return to me my love" I think its refering to the fact they will never forget her, but she should forget them, because of the things they have done,War is used as a Metaphore of life, and if you think about it life is a battle, "so raise youyr glass high, for tomorrow we die" This means we should embrace the day we die and know its our time, the fact that he sayss "When we go dont blame us" and "We all go to hell" to me means we all do things wrong, and thats natural so you cant blame us all the time, you cant hold everylittle thing against us. i really just think MCR is talking about life in genaral

For all the people who completely deny the possibility of a double (or triple) meaning of this song being that Gerard possibly is gay/bi whatever just because he had girlfriends in the past are obviously very ignorant to the lgbt community, and do not think of other possibilities.
For instance, he could be bi/gay, and thinks that if he came out publicly, it would ruin his career (I.e. Lance bass, who waited til his music career was already over)
Just because he had GF's in high school, does not mean anything. (there are instances of gay men marrying and having kids, fearing the backlash of coming out).
With all that being said, I think it could (again) be interpreted in many ways (oh art and music, how I love thee).
The Mama War sounds the most literally correct.
The anorexia interp seems like it could fit.
The Gay/bi interp is not a stretch.
"you should have raised a baby girl, I should have been a better son" could imply that the mom did not accept him, and things would have been okay had she had a girl, or he wishes that he could change himself to appease her.
"Mama, we're all full of lies" this one line in particular really pushes me towards the gay/bi string, just because I don't know where it would fit in the other two.
It's all cryptic, it's only one line, but given it's context...
The war he refers to could be the period of coming out and his mother disowning him. And not even necessarily him, maybe he had a friend who's story he's telling.
"and she said "You ain't no son of mine, for what you've done they're gonna find, a place for you, and just you mind..." -
I don't really think my answer would be one hundred percent right, but I'll give it a go--
I would think that the song is about the wars, and how people would kill each other. When Gerard says-
"We all go to hell", he is saying that we all kill each other, which is an unholy thing, in that matter.
Also, him saying "I'm writing this letter and wishing you well", he's saying he's far away, in an unfamiliar, dangerous place.
The pessimistic theme in the song would leave one traumatized and terrified of the events taking place during the battles and such.
"Mama, we're all gonna die", for example.
Skipping down a few lines, the one line
"Well, mother what the war did to my legs and to my tongue"
is saying that no good comes out of the actions of war, just bad things.
Also, the lines
"And when we go don't blame us.
We'll let the fire just bathe us.
You made us oh, so famous.", is saying we were just "protecting" our loved ones, and it isn't really our fault. But the line "let the fire just bathe us" is counter-saying that they should take some blame, because they killed a human being. And the final line states that most likely the mother is saying things about how GOOD it is that they are fighting for the sake of the loved ones, and masking the "dissapointment" and "wrong" in killing others. Hence the word "made".
In conclusion, the last two stanzas of the song state that there is no hope for one that goes in the direction of violence, and think fame and fortune is all that matters. Then it states that even though our "brother in arms" have fallen, we'll carry on anyway, because that would just be another human being dead. Finally, they just say that they will die soon, and come back as ghosts
"Return from the ashes you crawl".
Well, that was my best interpretation. Please do not bite my head off for giving my best shot. -
NO! wow.
first off the protagonist is in the hospital after he is diagnosed with this tragic diesease.
while in this hospital he meets a war veteran who is scared of going to hell when he dies because of all the people he's killed.
-
I know this song is about the character Mother War, but why in the Welcome to the Black Parade does she have a sign that says "starved to death in a land of plenty?"
-
I think this song is about going to war because at the beginning of the song, if you listen carefully, you can hear bombs in the background and he is writing a letter home to his mother because he thinks he is going to die and because he has been fighting in a war and killing people he thinks everyone that fought in the war is going to go to Hell. Well that's my interpretation anyway...
-
Someone told me this song was about anorexia and I listened to it again. The more I thought the more I thought it sounded like he was using symbolism about how fighting anorexia was like fighting a war against yourself
Well mother what the war did to my legs and to my tongue
It can leave you so weak you can't walk or talk -
I think that the song is about a boy/guy out to war, against what his mother has told him. He is writing home, but she is still not happy.
I think he is almost mocking her by saying 'I could have been a better son' but in a way that implys that he doesn't care anymore what she thinks.
And saying:
'Mama we all go to hell'
and
'Mama we're all gonna die'
gives me a feeling that maybe the war is getting worse and spreading, and that everyone's bad side will show itself. -
Mr. Blackparade is totally right.
This is my favorite song.I listen to it like EVERYDAY!
