My Chemical Romance: Summertime Meaning
Summertime Lyrics
Will you take me with you?
And carry all this broken bone
Through six years down in crowded rooms
And highways I called home?
Is Something I can't know 'til now.
'til you pick me off the ground
With brick in hand and...

I think this song is about Lyn-z. Lindsay wrote “Run away with me” on her arm while she was doing her set. Gerard, on the other hand, wrote “Anytime you want” on his neck.
I think the line when Gee says “How long until we find our way, in the dark and out of harm” is Gerard asking Lyn-z, “how long until the addiction is over?”.
When Gee writes “Don’t walk away” is him trying to tell Lindsay not to walk out on him as he need her to help him with his addiction.
I also think certain lines is about his daughter, Bandit. When he says “Till you pick me up off the ground” meaning that Bandit’s birth completely changed everything and it was one of the things that helped him with the addiction.
The line “terrified of what I’d be, as a kid form what I’ve seen” is about Gee trying to tell Bandit that he witnessed the 9/11 attacks.
In general, I think that this song is about Gerard’s relationship with Lyn-z as well as Bandit. -
Gerard has said in a few interviews that Summertime is about his wife, Lindsey. It could also be about Bandit, but that's never been confirmed. In the reunion show he says "this song is about/for my baby" so it's def about either Lynz or Bandit. In context of the album though, its about the calm after S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W which G said was written like how you'd explain a nuclear bomb dropping to a child. So it's very much a "calm after the storm" moment, and appreciating what you still have after a disaster like a nuclear bomb.

Gerard went through another battle with addiction around the time that song was wrote and Lindsey was trying to help him but it wasn't working. So she threatened to leave and take Bandit with her. That lyric "Don't walk away." he was basically asking her not walk out. This song, was written about Lindsey! There's an account on Instagram call lynzfacts and it explains it a little more!

That is my interpretation of probably the best song ever written. -
I always thought the song is not about lindsey but about bandit and how her existance put him back into a happy life
"with a brick in hand, your lipgloss smile, your scraped up knees"
that refers imo to a kid.
"something I can't know till now, till you picked me off the ground"
bandit's birth changed his life completely.
what do you think about that? -
I think the song is about people that you love in general, friends and lovers in particular. The line "Turn my headphones up real loud" represents trying to tune out real life and the people that are trying to pull you down, and "I don't think I need them now, 'cause you stop the noise" is abou meeting those people, who understand and are messed up too, but slowly bring you out of the trance you get into ignore real life, and will guide you through the dark times, holding your hand and stumbling with you.
The lyric "You can write it on your arm" is about Gerard and Lyn-Z (like the whole song, but that line in particular for me) on tour together, and Lyn-Z wrote 'You can run away with me' on her arm during her set, and Gerard wrote 'Anytime you want' on his. The song as a whole is about those people you meet who pull you out of your sleep, and make you wake up to real life, the good, beautiful things, and although they can't sheild you from the bad stuff, they protect you and stay with you throughout it. -
the second to last line needs to say "you can write it on your arm" its hard to hear but its sooo sweet that he wrote this about Lyn-z... so cute!! ^_^
-
This song is obviously about Lindsay, Gerards wife because they wrote things on each others arms during concerts they both preformed in.
But in the context about the album is about the peace after the S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W Whatever it was, and the indecision in how to continue their journey, whether or not to face down BLind or just to continue to run away. -
Lyn-z Wrote you can run away with me on her arm and Gerard wrote anytime you want on his neck <3 f
-
This song was written about Lyn-z, and the summer they spent touring together.
-
I think this song is.saying move on from you lovers past.and their.issuses.if.they are ready to with you. You should see how much they love you and are ready to move.on from the past, isnt that all that matters?
-
When gerard way (lead vocalist) and his wife (lyn-z from msi) were performing on the same festival, they wrote messages to eachother on their arms/necks etc during their sets. i cant remember who wrote what, but one of them wrote "Run away with me" on their arm during their set, and then the other wrote "any time you want" at their set. thats what this song is about.
-
Simply said; This is a love song written for Gerard Way's wife Lynz Way.
