My Chemical Romance: Surrender the Night Meaning
Song Released: 2013
Surrender the Night Lyrics
Just another accidental on the freeway of this life
We'll drive on, and on, and on, and on
We'll drive on and on and-
I'll remember this night when you're gone
You surrender your heart
I surrender every...

#1 top rated interpretation:A girl is suicidal. The boy loves her.
She really wants to kill herself but he wont let her, not tonight. Tonight belongs to him.
I'm not saying my interpretation is right. But there it is. -
2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:Everyone's a passenger tonight,
(I think this describes life, it being cruel and unexpected)
Just another accidental on the freeway of this life.
(A car crash)
We'll drive on, and on, and on, and on.
We'll drive on, and on, and-
(In his/her head they just keep going)
I'll remember this night when you're gone (somebody is currently dying)
You surrender your heart,
(During the crash, the girl shares her love for)
I surrender every dream,
(The guy describes what he wants in life)
Every weapon you've got,
(Her demons)
Every secret that I keep,
(His secrets)
You can fight this all you want,
But tonight belongs to-
(they are both afraid to be who they are)
Just another surgery tonight,
(The surgery is happening)
Well if you amputate the loneliness,
(He can't get rid of the loneliness)
Anesthesia dims the lights.
(Drugs can fix the problem)
So dream on, and on, and on, and on. (Currently high?)
So dream on, and on, and-
I'll remember your eyes when you're gone
You surrender your heart,
I surrender every dream,
Every weapon you've got,
Every secret that I keep,
You can fight this all you want,
But tonight belongs to me
And I'll watch you in your sleep
(He will watch her dead body)
'Cause tonight belongs to me
(The night isn't over and he wants the last few hours to be with her)
You can fight this all you want,
But tonight belongs to...
Sparks against the railing,
(The crash happening)
Distant phantoms wailing.
(His demons of thinking it's his fault)
Through the windshield sailing,
(The girl going through the windshield)
With these airbags failing.
(Self-explanatory)
Now you surrender your heart,
I surrender every dream,
Every weapon you've got,
Every secret that I keep,
You can fight this all you want,
But tonight belongs to me
And I'll watch you in your sleep,
You can fight this all you want,
But tonight belongs to me,
But tonight belongs to me,
But tonight belongs to me. -
I think it’s all a beautiful analogy. Relationships are difficult, and often don’t work out, but they are still meaningful to each of us personally. We all carry special nights, even after the other person is lost to us.
? -
He's on drugs to deal with the agonizing death of his love in a car crash. He's ruined, believing that all life is as awful, painful and pointless as the car crash that destroyed his.
-
I like to think of it as two people on the run, from what, I don't know necessarily what from but from something. The person who is singing the song is secretive, doesn't reveal much, they know they're going to get captured soon so she/he confesses her/his love but the other stays secretive, only revealing dreams.
I'll remember your eyes when you're gone.
The singer's favourite feature is the person's eyes, this will be the most memorable piece of them when they're captured. -
A couple goes out driving. It's a memorable evening because they get in a car crash. The guy survives while the girl becomes seriously injured.
The guy wants her to admit she loved him ("give him her heart.") He gives up his dreams for their future together. She lets her guard down while he reveals any secrets. VERY ROMANTIC.
...and then she dies.
That's my interpretation anyway.
