My Chemical Romance: The Only Hope for Me is You Meaning
Song Released: 2010
The Only Hope for Me is You Lyrics
Remember me
Remember me
Remember me
Remember me
Where, where will you stand
When all the lights go out
Across these city streets
Where were you when
All of the embers fell
I still remember them
Covered in...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think the lyrics echoing "remember me" is saying that any time he could die, and to not forget what he says.
"Where were you when
All of the embers fell
I still remembered them
Covered in ash
Covered in glass
Covered in all my friends
I still think of the bombs they built"
The first verse sort of implies that a nuclear explosion occurred in which he lost all his friends, and he's asking this person how they survived and where they were when it all happened, and he still thinks about it and has to deal with the pain.
"If there's a place that I could be
Then I'd be another memory"
I think this is saying that if he never rebelled and simply stayed in the safety and went on without running, then he would end up dying "just another memory" with having made no difference in anyone's lives.
"Can I be the only hope for you?
Because you're the only hope for me"
This is the part of the chorus where it seems he's asking if he can trust and rely on this person and if they could sort of rely on eachother, seeing that they have nobody else left.
"And if we can't find where we belong
We'll have to make it on our own
Face all the pain and take it on"
I think he says that if they can never find a safe place to belong then they'd have to keep moving and running and face the pain and challenges of it.
"How would you be
Many years after the disasters
That we've seen?
What if we learned
Of all the people burning
Purifying flame
I say it's okay, I know you can tell.
And though you can see me smile, I still think of the guns they sell."
I think that here he's talking about how these disasters might affect their future, how people might continue the rebellion and achieve freedom and teach people about it; and how he would be a little messed up, and that he might be okay and smile, but really he'd always think about the guns, fighting and survival struggles.
I also thought the repetition on "the only hope for me" and "the only hope for me is you alone" really added the emphasis of needing someone's help out of the worst possible situation you could be in. -
2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:This is a narrative of intense, almost obsessive love and dependancy on somebody, and a desire to mean as much to them as they do to you. It's about knowing that somebody is always there even when such destruction and pain is present in the world, somebody who makes it all alright again. Its about a desperation for the one you love to always remember that you are there for them, no matter how difficult or hopeless things become. Devotion and complete reliance are the main themes throughout; tiny shafts of hope in a dismal world.

You know I don’t think this song is about 911. I think it’s about the girl from the killjoy videos thinking about Party poison, Konrad kid, jet star and fun ghoul (the band) who died in sing because the words ‘remember me’ repeat a lot and echoes and they’re talking about a bomb.

I think this song is about 9/11.
"(Remember me, remember me)
Remember me
Remember me
Remember me
Remember me"
I think this is saying to remember everyone lost on that day.
"Where, where will we stand
When all the lights go out
Across these city streets
Where were you when
All of the embers fell
I still remembered them
Covered in ash
Covered in glass
Covered in all my friends
I still think of the bombs they built"
I think this is about what happened after the planes hit. When the towers collapsed a big cloud of dust swept across the city so it was hard for people to see (When all the lights go out across these city streets)
I think the lines 'I still remembered them, covered in ash, covered in glass, covered in all my friends, I still think of the bombs they built' is talking about the terrorists because they would be covered in ash, glass, and people. They have also built many bombs in various places around the US.
"If there's a place that I could be
Then I'd be another memory
Can I be the only hope for you?
Because you're the only hope for me
And if we can't find where we belong
We'll have to make it on our own
Face all the pain and take it on
Because the only hope for me is you alone"
I think this is saying that if they had been there then they would have died, eventually being 'another memory'. I think the person they're singing this to is supposed to be the only hope for them. After 9/11, they might've seen no point in their life, and that person is their only reason to keep living. 'And if we can't find where we belong, we'll have to make it on our own, face all the pain and take it on' They'll have to face the fact that their friends are gone, and they can't do anything about it.
"How would you be
Many years after the disasters
That we've seen
What if we learned
Of all the people burning
Purifying flame
I'll say it's okay
I know you can tell
And though you can see me smile
I still think of the guns they sell"
I think this is the person asking if the other person would still be okay being their only hope years later, and also if they learned of more people that died. The person will try to reassure the other person that everythings okay, and they know that. Even though the person's happy, they still think of the things the terrorists are doing.
The last couple of lines are a repeat of the chorus, 'The only hope for me is you', and 'remember me.
The first verse could also be the band reliving 9/11 and the second verse could be them thinking about it years later.
*If you try argue with me about these lyrics I really wont care what you say. I am NOT sure that this is what the lyrics mean. This is just my opinion* -
So I think the song is about Gerard having to deal with the memories of 9/11. He wants to make sure that his daughter Bandit knows about it, but also realizes that she's all the hope in his life.
Like someone else already pointed out the repeated "Remember Me" is most likely means he hopes people will remember him and what he has said after he passes away.
--love this song and the band <3 -
It's not about 9/11 he said it himself. Its written for his daughter Bandit. She is the only hope for him he said and if you look at the killjoy part it's about when the nuclear bomb went off
-
It's about 9/11 if u listen to it
-
In my interpretation of this song i think it is about a person (guy or girl) who is in the wrong state of mind like for example either caught up with the wrong people or drugs and needs that speciall someone to help them through thick and thin, through good and bad, in sickness and in health.
-
9/11 because that was the turning point of gerard's life when he decided to create a band. their first song was in remembrance to 9/11.
-
Sorry if this is short but,
It's about September eleventh -
i love this song...
and i think part of its meaning, someone being "the only hope for you" means that, say, if they are feeling down, then you feel down. So the only hope for you to feel better is to make them feel better.
Also, "remember me" in my opinion implies the narrator doesn't plan on returning from whatever or knows he's gonna die, or it is highly likely, sometime in the near future.
There's obviously more, but im not entirely sure...this is all just in my opinion....
