Nickelback - Home Meaning

To me it sounds like
He made a lot of mistakes and his life took a turn for the worse... He's a destructive person who possibly comes from a broken family, and he blames himself for the mistakes that were made.the girl he is with is precious to him but their relationship isn't the best right now... They're probably fighting. He's afraid hes going to end up losing her, too or pushing her away because of his issues. That's what I gather. But that might just be me. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

To me it sounds like he was with a girl (possibly long distance, or went on a business trip), ended up cheating on her with another girl - “should have told her to go and I know it, but she tasted like home”. Throughout the whole song he’s singing “I hope she’s waiting back home”. Then towards the end he says “walked through the door and there’s no light on anymore”, which means she left him and now he himself is the only person he can blame...

It sounds like he’s talking about how self-destructive he is. He’s all alone. Home is generally a place where people feel safe and loved. It seems like he had a girl in his life but he chased her away like everyone else in his life (sounds like because he’s an alcoholic), now he’s alone in this world and has no Home, a place where he is loved and accepted.
