Nirvana: You Know You're Right Meaning
Song Released: 2002
You Know You're Right Lyrics
I will never promise to
I will never follow you
I will never bother you
Never speak a word again
I will crawl away for good
I will move away from here
You wont be afraid of fear
No thought was put in to this
I...

After reading some of these interpretations I listened to the song again. It is clearly about leaving Courtney Love.
It doesn't have to do with leaving music, which is evident by the sarcastic line "You know you're right." This is something that would be said to an ex friend or lover who always thinks they're right, not a company. -
I think it is about Kurt writing about Courtney love with the lines
"Let’s talk about someone else
Steaming soup against her mouth
Nothing really bothers her
She just wants to love herself"
it just shows that she was a whore and only loves her self -
This song is not only about his relationship but more importantly about everything that has been happening in his life thats eating him apart and personally I think it's the best nirvana song.
-
This song is more like his suicide note than his actual 1, he explains death in his own interpretation "im so warm and calm inside," not forgetting the underlying unescapable pain, but evenb with this he knows it is right, thus calling the song you know youre right.
-
Sometimes I read these lyrics and I think they're about his relationship with Courtney, then I read them and I think it's about suicide. The whole song could easily be about suicide but some lines stick out like "Nothing really bothers her, she just wants to love herself". Then again, these lines may coincide with the root meaning of suicide. Maybe the reason for suicide. I don't know... we will never know. But I think Kurt wrote about multiple subjects in his songs.
-
This song is about the difficult times being with Courtney! this was the last song he wrote before Kurt died! Courtney, shortly after he wrote that had written or sang a song you've got no right! Courtney was a b****!
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I don't think this song is so much about suicide as it is about just being done with Courtney and the music industry. It simply sounds like he was just ready to crawl into a corner and hide (I will never bother you...never speak a word again, I will crawl away for good). Suicide is a logical interpretation, but I simply feel that this is simply being done with the industry and his current role in life.

So basically I think he's talking about how he doesn't want to be around people cause he's so sad and he just wants to be alone. and he knew that it would come to him feeling alone because he doesn't want to be around others.
You know your right meaning...yea I know, I can't deny what your telling me now matter how bad it hurts. So the person is hurting he's feelings and putting him down and he (Kurt) agrees with him but I don't think he's telling him he agrees because, well, he(the one putting Kurt down) knows he's right so he doesn't have to try to defend himself (Kurt).
Then he talks about how he's feeling better emotionally so now he can be around someone but they have to talk about someone else to keep his mind off himself or to make himself feel better bout himself.
Then the no thought was put into this always know it come to this was talking bout how he instinctively knew he would be all sad and depressed about himself and not being able to connect with others because of wanting to be alone all the time....I think haha -
Kurt was murdered, he didn´t commit suicide, all the proofs are here:

Here is just some of...
WHAT YOU WERE NEVER TOLD:
COURTNEY LOVE WAS FACING A DIVORCE
Kurt was in the process of leaving Seattle and his wife Courtney, when he was found dead.
Courtney knew Kurt wanted out of the marriage. Just weeks prior to his death, she asked one of her attorneys to get the "meanest, most vicious divorce lawyer" she could find.
SOMEONE WAS USING KURT'S CREDIT CARD
One of Kurt's credit cards was missing when his body was discovered.
Someone was attempting to use the missing credit card after Cobain died, but the attempts stopped when his body was discovered.
COBAIN WAS IN FEAR OF HIS LIFE
The shotgun found at the scene was purchased BEFORE Cobain left for rehab in Los Angeles, NOT AFTER he fled the rehab as reported by misinformed media sources.
The shotgun was fully loaded with three shells. It was purchased and loaded for protection, not suicide.
The police claim there were no legible fingerprints on this shotgun!
The truth is, the shotgun wasn't even checked for fingerprints until May 6th, nearly one month after Cobain's body was found.
THERE WAS NO "SUICIDE" NOTE!!
The note found at the scene by the police was immediately labeled as a "suicide note." The police report states it was "apparently written by Cobain to his wife and daughter, explaining why he had killed himself."
But this note was not addressed to Kurt's wife and daughter and it says nothing about "killing himself!" This note was clearly written to Cobain's fans telling them he was quitting the music business. There was only a short footnote to Courtney and Frances and the handwriting contained in those lines has been questioned by several handwriting experts.
COURTNEY HAD ANOTHER NOTE SHE KEPT IN SECRET!
Courtney was in possession of a second note after Kurt's body was found! SHE DIDN'T TELL ANYONE about this second note until several months later when information about it slipped out during an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine.
The second note, the one that Courtney kept in secret, clearly defines the first note which was found at the scene of Cobain's death. The "second note" from Kurt plainly states he was leaving Courtney and he was leaving Seattle. He was NOT leaving the planet!
COBAIN WAS INJECTED WITH 3 TIMES A LETHAL DOSE OF HEROIN!!
Cobain's heroin, (morphine), blood level was 1.52 mgs per liter. This would require a minimum injection of 225 mgs of heroin, three times a lethal dose, even for a hardcore heroin addict! The drug Diazepam, was also found in Cobain's blood system.
THE OBVIOUS QUESTIONS:
1. If Cobain injected himself with a deliberate heroin overdose, why would he ALSO shoot himself in the head with a shotgun, leaving his baby daughter - the love of his life - with horrific visual images to remember him by? Why not just "go to sleep" on the overdose and never wake up?
2. IF Cobain injected three times a lethal dose of heroin, COULD he then pick up a shotgun and shoot himself? Wouldn't he have been immediately incapacitated?
Based on the heroin, (morphine), blood levels found in Cobain's body, preliminary research indicates Kurt Cobain would have been immediately incapacitated. He could not have picked up that shotgun. He could not have pulled that trigger!
IN ADDITION...
Cobain was not barricaded inside the room as reported by misinformed media sources.
The stool which was supposedly wedged" against the door was actually just sitting in front of the two unlocked doors that only led out to a balcony.
Cobain did not leave his Driver’s License out for identification as reported by misinformed media sources.
The first police officer on the scene found Cobain's closed wallet, opened it to remove Kurt's driver's license, and displayed it in order to take a photograph.
THE FACT IS...
The police and the Medical Examiner have no forensic evidence that proves Cobain's death was a suicide. On the other hand, there's a substantial amount of evidence for murder.
The official verdict of "suicide" was simply a rush to judgement which eventually painted the authorities into a corner as reports of so-called "copy-cat" suicides began making the news.
As you examine this case carefully, you're going to discover there's much more to the events surrounding Cobain's death than what you've been told. -
I think it is about suicide, whether or not it was serious or sarcastic is another question that no one can answer, and to the people saying that it was a conspiracy you don't know better than anyone else that claims to know, the truth is that no one knows except Kurt himself, or if it was a conspiracy him and the people that did it.
peace love and nirvana -
By "crawl away for good" he wasnt talking about suicide he was talking about leaving the music industry, he just wanted to leave the spotlight once and for all
-
I agree it was about leaving courtney, and probably the music business, but I think when he said "no thought was put into this" I don't think he meant the marriage. I think he was saying, "This was never going to last forever. I wasn't always going to be a star, and you knew it. Let me go, move on." A release and flat denial of an alternative to Courtney Love, Nirvana's fans, and grunge in general.
From his childhood Kurt's life was a self-destructive shot at the moon. He always assumed he would eventually burn out, and he assumed everyone knew it. I still don't believe he killed himself, but he knew some kind of end was coming. -
It is about him leaving the band and Courtney because both are taking control of his life and he doesn't like it.
-
You all do remember though, Kurt was on drugs when he wrote most of his music... Yes this could be based on anything- it could even have more than one meaning. But at the same time, remember everything that was going on in his life at the time. He was incredible though, his music is amazing. Maybe we should stop stressing about what it means and concentrate on the song as just that- an incredible song written by an inspiring man.
