Panic! At The Disco: I Constantly Thank God for Esteban Meaning
I Constantly Thank God for Esteban Lyrics
Forgive our sins
Forged at the pulpit with forked tongues selling faux sermons.
Because I am a new wave gospel sharp, and you'll be thy witness
So gentlemen, if you are going to preach, for...

I'm not totally sure but I thought it was about mormonism because Brendon used to be a mormon, but the catholic thing makes more sense

I don't understand why they say "Stay where I can see you /douse the lights". In a lot of movies/tv shows, shutting down the lights causes panic and confusion. In an episode of law & order this guy shuts down the light and starts shooting people. also after the lights have been doused the song goes: "we sure are in for a show tonight". does that mean that they are gonna be killed or something? I dunno. if I'm missing something, please share. also I wonder about the line "if the scene was a parish, you'd all be condemned". aren't they in a parish/churhc/holy place already?

Anonymous it dosn't sound crazy at all ! Maybe that exactly it !! It does make perfecte sense BUT it can to be of people that act like shooter and really arn't!
Beside all that there are many other parts of the songs, for example the biggining "Give us this day our daily dose of faux affliction Forgive our sins
Forged at the pulpit with forked tongues selling faux sermons. Because I am a new wave gospel sharp, and you'll be thy witness So gentlemen, if you are going to preach, for God sakes preach with conviction!" makes them sound like a new wave making making somthing (I have no idea what)or someone look like a fake and them as the real whatever but this is totaly unclear to me. can someone make sense of what I'talkig about ? -
Ok, you know the part that says, "In this little number we're graced by two displays of character. We've got the gunslinger extroidinare walking contradiction. And I for one can see no blood from the hearts and the wrists you allegedly slit." ? It sounds crazy, but doesn't that sound a little like Vash the Stampede from Trigun? You know, he's a great gunman who is accused of all these crimes and murders he really didn't commit.

I personally think this is describing a cult where the preacher knows it's not real illustrated by the faux sermons and faux affliction and then asking the congregation if they get it yet that he's being a fraud.
