Panic! At The Disco: Nine In The Afternoon Meaning
Song Released: 2008
Nine In The Afternoon Lyrics
Feeling as good as lovers can .. you know
Well, now we’re feeling so good
Picking up things we shouldn’t read
It looks like the end of history as we know
It’s just the end of the world
Back to the...
-
About them doing pot.
-
I thought it was about them getting high....considering that there is no such thing as "nine in the afternoon"..and they say "your eyes are the size of the moon", i saw them in concert the other day and that seemed to be the message they were giving
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
When they write their songs they are always together and I guess they're saying "back to the room where it all began" they're saying they always go back to the room where they wrote their first song in a figurative manner of course
-
I just think its about getting stoned. a place where thoughts can bloom. nine in the afternoon representing a place of confusion. don't even say it doesnt sound like it. eyes size of the moon - dialated pupils. duh
-
This song is dedicated to the Beatles.
-
I know that this is not the right interpretation, because Panic! At The Disco said that this song shouldn't make much sense. But I prefer the "couple idea".
So here is my interpretation:
"Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as lovers can, you know
Yeah we're feeling so good"
-This bacically means, that they're going back to the place where everything began. And then they start once again and realise, that they feel so good being together again.
"Pickin up things we shouldnt read
It looks like the end of history as we know
Its just the end of the world"
-They see the mistakes they made. And they once thought that everything is over and it won't be the same anymore. Also it may mean (it's *just* the end of the world) that even if the world would end, they wouldn't care, because they are so happy and deep in love at this moment right now.
"Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as love, you could, you can"
-This lines show the opportunities they have and they should use this opportrunity to be happy.
"Into a place where thoughts can bloom
Into a room where it's nine in the afternoon
And we know that it could be
And we know that it should
And you know that you feel it too
'Cause it's nine in the afternoon"
-Now they are in this room and they should enjoy the moment, because they had it once before and now it's even more beautiful. They do the right thing.
"And your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good
just the way that we do
When it's nine in the afternoon"
-The eyes singnify that she's so in love right now. She could, so she should, so she does. Again he says that they're so happy and feel so good.
But here comes a confusing part. (When it's nine in the afternoon)
There are some explanations for this time. Of course, it seems unrealistic: it could never be 9 in the afternoon.
1. They feel so good and enjoy the time, so they don't realise how it passes by. And when they look at the colck it's already 9 but they could swear that it could be still afternoon.
2. They are too happy to understand that it can't be 9 in the afternoon though they think it is 9 o clock and somewhere in the afternoon. But that doesn't matter beacause they have each other.
3. They just split up. But he still believes that they're going to be together again. So he imagines how it would be again, hoping it will be again. But then he realizes that it can't be anymore the same again. Unless it would be 9 in the afternoon, but that's not possible. So all these beautiful thoughts will happen only in his mind.
"Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good"
-Same again
"Back to the street
Down to our feet
Losing the feeling of feeling unique
Do you know what I mean?"
-This may mean that he suddenly realises it is a stupid idea, because it's not like it used to be.
"Back to the place
Where we used to say
Man it feels good to feel this way
Now I know what I mean"
-But he gets a good feeling again, because it just feels so good.
"Back to the street, back to the place,
Back to the room where it all began, hey
Back to the room where it all began
'Cause it's nine in the afternoon"
-Just remembering all the good time that happend in this place and just being so happy that it's happening again.
"Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good
Just the way that we do
When it's nine in the afternoon"
-Same again
I like this song, it gives me hope. Although there are some little negative signs it seems to be a great time. Just think of it.. <3 -
This song, to me, is about getting high or intoxicated by some kind of drug or beverage and not making it a bad thing but a 'who cares?' thing.
"back to the street where we began..." ...began getting the 'stuff'
and they feel as good as lovers would.
When you get high your eyes "are the size of the moon"
You have to decide: "You could" get high. "You can" get high. "So you do" get high "and we're feeling so good" -
I personally haven't found any meaning to this song, but those of you that do,congrats. All i know is how the name was created.
While writing the song,Brendon Urie asked his band mates what time it was.Spencer Smith then commented that it was seven in the afternoon.
After deciding to use that as their title, the changed it to nine in the afternoon,to better fit in the song. -
Okay, so...basically, it's about getting high. I watched an interview with Brendon Urie(hottest guy EVER)and he said it was kind of an idea they got from the bands their parents used to listen to. And their parents probably listened to bands from the sixties, the era of weed.

I think this song is about being "high on love." What leads me to think this:
And we know that it could be
And we know that it should
And you that you feel it too
{a shared feeling of love and passion}
Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good
{one sign of being high is your eyes widening or pupils getting smaller and making your eyes look bigger}
Back to the place
Where we used to say
Man it feels good to feel this way
{another reference to being high}
Back to the street, back to the place,
Back to the room where it all began
{back to the place where they met/became a couple} -
I think the main theme of this song is when a couple goes "Back to the room where it all began" (the place they became a couple) to seek refuge from the hardships of their life and they try to reverse the situation.
Ok, here goes.
Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as lovers can, you know
Yeah, we're feeling so good
-the couple remember their good times back then
Picking up things we shouldn't read
It looks like the end of history as we know
It's just the end of the world
Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as love, you could, you can
-this paragraph portrays to the wrong things they've done (or experienced) and, if my theory is right, they're going "Back to the street where we began"
Into a place where thoughts can bloom
Into a room where it's nine in the afternoon
And we know that it could be
And we know that it should
And you know that you feel it too
-in that room, they try to change their failed life
'Cause it's nine in the afternoon
And your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good
Just the way that we do
When it's nine in the afternoon
Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
We're feeling so good
-ah, the chorus... when it's nine in the afternoon, they feel so good and they try to change their lives for better because they think they can ("You could 'cause you can so you do")
Back to the street
Down to our feet
Losing the feeling of feeling unique
Do you know what I mean?
-this is somewhat a proof of my theory that the couple is experincing hardships
-this may be wrong but, this is my interpretation...
