   The band had there issues with regards to royalties of the music they made. Freddie had found out about having AIDS and wanted to put all differences behind them, it's was his band mates he wanted to "make you smile" that was his breakthru... brilliantly written just like many other hits of theirs... In my opinion the best band to have ever walked the earth... RIP Freddie.

   This song is always on my mind lately. I believe that Freddie had a very fantastic spiritualality about him which more than likely influenced the entire band of Queen particularly at the later stages of his life. If you are a big fan of Queen and followed them for long enough and I have loved Queen since I was 8 years old, you can see and hear this "spiritual" quality progression over the years of Queen's evolution. It is mystically beautiful and wonderfully, deliciously, tantalizingly curious. I know what this song is saying on a level I could not articulate in words. Isn't this the beauty of great art?

   This song could very well be interpreted into a love song due to its music video and lyrics. But when you take the timeline of when this song was written into consideration another interpretation could make sense too. Before this song, the band struggled with who got credit for writing what songs because that was the person who would make the most money on a song. They had finally decided to give equal credit to every member in each song so they all made the same amount of money, this is when the song was created. I think they were all so relieved about this "breakthru" and that is what drove the band to write this song.

   To me this extraordinary song is about a guy who wants to get a girl's attention.You hear in the lyrics"if I could make you smile that would really be a breakthrough. I think this guy is trying to breakthrough to her heart.
